Baxter Performance Remote Oil Filter

I looked at the canister filter location again today. It sits well above the RCI skid plates and will most assuredly spill oil on the skid plate every time it's changed. Besides that, it's a bear to get in there and pull the canister out through the little RCI plate square opening.

So I ordered the remote oil filter adapter (multi-port) and the inverted spin on oil filter adapter. When it arrives and I see which AN-10 fittings it comes with I'll look for the hose and fittings I need.

Funny thing. When I selected the inverted oil filter adapter I tried to verify it fit the Toyota 4Runner and not some other Toyota vehicle. Duh, it's at the far end of the AN-10 hoses. It would fit any car.

It will be great to have the oil filter where it's easy to reach and a clean job.

Remote filter mount?

It was definitely on the expensive side and it doesn't come with -10AN lines or fittings for the lines (like the article in the Toyota Mag suggested). But it makes oil changes a lot easier. I used to have to take the skid plates off to get to the filter and it was a pain in the ass. Now, oil changes are a breeze.
@Havik
Where did you anchor the inverted remote oil filter adapter shown in your photo? I saw the 3 holes in the mount plate but I haven't looked to see where it can mount. Are there existing bolt holes for this? Does it mount into another part on the engine?

Any tips on selecting the AN-10 fittings and hoses? Is there a good source for these. I only saw what was available through Amazon.

Thanks for any info you can give me.

My friend is a fabricator, he made a mount for me that fit in the spot, so I didn't use the mount that came with it.

As for AN lines and fittings, I bought mine off Amazon. You need a -10 AN hose and fittings for this kit. I am replacing the one I got with a new one as I need more hose length since I have to relocate it due to the Magnuson supercharger. Here is the new one I ordered:

Thanks for the link @Havik . Bear no expense to get the best hose and fittings, right? The Baxter Performance parts are being delivered on Monday. As soon as I see what else I need I'll order that hose. I'm almost due for the 30,000 mile oil change so I'll be adding this remote oil filter then and it may be the last time I need to remove the RCI engine skid plate for an oil change.

I'll have to locate the filter so I can add the Supercharger later.

Where does the Baxter adapter get plumbed into, how many feet of AN hose did you need, and do you have any pics of the mount by itself?

Thanks!

Hi Eric,
I found that with the KDSS system, the closest place I could mount the remote bracket was on the side of the left, drivers side wheel well, behind the fuse box. I had to make a bracket out of metal plates and use the existing OEM bolt holes that are on the inside of the engine bay up on the sides, above the wheel. I used 6 foot hoses to reach the location but 5 feet might have worked.

I don't have any pictures of the mount itself, but it's very easy to make a mount if needed. How many feet of hose depends on where you mount the relocation kit. I bought a 12 foot hose, but didn't use more than half of it. I've had this setup over a year and I can tell you I've never had an issue with it.

I used the spin on adapter. I don't have anymore room under the hood for the oil filter with a remote setup.

That said, I used a NAPA gold 1068 filter which is twice the filter area of the stock filter. And you can see with my CBI skids and pretty much any aftermarket skids you have several inches of clearance, there is no way you are gonna dent the skid that far without doing major damage to other things on your vehicle. I have a good 3 inches of clearance.

And there are literally hundreds of filters out there of all different lengths depending on your aftermarket skids but I dont think its gonna be an issue for anybody with aftermarket skids.

With the factory stamped steel skid plate you would have to use a slightly shorter filter like the NAPA gold 1085. But again you can cross reference these filters with your choice of brand of filter.

It never hurts to add more filter area. and the ease of oil changes is so much nicer right thru the access plate on the skid.

Also, the factory plastic filter housing is known to crack and leak, this billet aluminum adapter eliminates that issue too.

The adapter just screws right on in 5 seconds and you screw your filter of choice on, done.

and as ZONZIN said, its best to cut off that one tab on the frame where the factory stamped steel skid bolted too in case the engine torques a bit and hits it, We are not using that tab anymore anyway. These pics are before I cut that tab off, I just took mine off completely since it will never be used again anyway

I am wondering what keeps the baxter adapter from unspinning while you are removing the new spin-on oil filter?

So I used the Fram XG16 because it is the biggest I could comfortably install however, I did have to cut a un-used tab a bit to make sure there would be no issues when the engine flexes on the motor mounts, to 2 minutes to cut and paint. Baxter recomends the Mobil M1-102 filter which is plug and play. I wanted more surface area so I went with the XG16.
Here is a couple of pics of the install.

Baxter installed.

The piece cut from the un-used tab. About 2"x.5"

Where the tab was cut.

Finished product,, tons of room and can still access the filter through the "door" in the RCI skid.

Has this adapter ever come loose?

Question

is there really an advantage to the spin on vs the billet cover

larger filter so reduced pressure drop across the filter as there is more surface area ( as mentioned above)

Cartridge to Spin-On Adapter

VS

Billet Oil Cap for filter - Jowett Performance
