MrJux's 2018 SR5 Adventure Thread

First things first, I'm not expecting to do anything major with the ride, so this won't really be a build thread but rather documenting the life of the vehicle and throwing up photos. Beyond a small lift and wheels/tires, it'll stay mostly the way it is.

I previously owned two Tacomas, but lately I realized that I rarely used the truck bed, and I didn't like the limited interior space. I've always liked the 4Runner, and after hemming and hawing about it, I started shopping around and about a month ago wound up getting a great deal on a 2018 SR5 Premium.

I was sad to see the Taco go but after a long and frustrating trip at the dealership, a trade was made:

My prior Toyotas:

2011 Tacoma TRDOR Access Cab:

When then became a 2013 TRDOR Double Cab:

So here we are.

More to come.

First mod: window tinting. I asked the shop to match the backs, but they went a fair bit darker and now I'm trying to decide on if it bugs me enough to match.

And its first sticker, this one doesn't add any HP though.

Today was a gorgeous day in Northern Colorado, so the wife and I loaded up the dog and hit up Red Feather Lakes.

Again, this isn't so much a build thread (although mods are coming), but an adventure thread, so there's nothing build wise in this post, but more a record of the vehicle and adventures with it.

This was a tame weekend compared to other vehicles I've had, but it was great to get out and enjoy a beautiful day.

First things first, I got the 4R looking nice and sparkly, just to be reminded how much my front window tint doesn't match. But damn I love that red.

Tried splitting the back seats to let the dog roam into the back, freaked him out more than anything. Also, I can't recommend enough this seat cover for dogs. Never got around to one on my prior vehicles and it was a constant battle against fur.

We got up into Red Feather, and it was good to get the 4R off the highway for the first time. Make no mistake - this was not true offroading, these were muddy and snow covered beat up dirt roads that a Suby CrossTrek would be fine with, but I was interested to see how those Deulers did.

All in all, it was a great day to get out. The dog certainly approved.

Now it's time to find a slight lift, wheels and tires for April.

Bonus shot of Creedmore Lake my wife got

Awesome, man. That's basically how I live with my 4Runner. I put a set of BFG ATs on it at 25k miles but otherwise we just load the dogs up and go romping through the mountains with it as is. It's an incredibly capable vehicle stock and it's nice to not worry about how mods tend to screw things up in regards to comfort and reliability. Then there's the alignment issues, fuel mileage decrease, etc.

I've pretty much decided to keep mine stock it's whole life other than new sets of BFGs when they're needed. Targeting 300k+ miles of OEM fun.

Also, not to salt the wound, but I liked yours better before that window tint. It's definitely darker in the front.

Yeah, I'm going to do SOMETHING about it, I'm just not sure which way I want to go with it. I had asked the shop to match the backs, so do I want to make a stink and have them re-do it lighter, or just see if they can cut me a deal and tint the rest darker?

They're a highly reviewed shop, I know they'll help me out either way, just gotta make the decision.

Don't bother with a "slight lift" or different wheels; neither will really gain you anything. Just put some good tires on it.

Daily driver and so far spending about 30% of time/mileage off-road. Previous truck 2004 Land Rover Discovery that also spent about a third of it's life off-road. I HANG AROUND HERE "THE T4R FASHION FORUM" JUST FOR LAUGHS.
Perfect vehicle as it stands for northern Nevada terrain. Keep it stock - it'll go most anywhere as is.

have them add a light tint to the back ones IMO.

Your life will change when you get k02's or any other AT. I put two holes through the stock Duellers the third trip we took it on lol.
