So I’ve put about 4K miles on my 4Runner since installing the URD kit. No major issues. It does make a lot more noise when cold staring in really cold weather. Also, I’ve noticed that if I take off and go half throttle until I reach 60-70 mph, my 3rd or 4th gear will kind of hang up. In some cases I’ll have to shift manually. I’ve been told that I could need a zero gyro calibration. Anyone else experiencing any thing like this?

About 6k mi on my URD/Whipple kit. I had the performance shop change the SC oil at about the 5k mi mark. I know it wasn't required so early, but I'm of the mind to change oil on anything new and check for shavings. Shop said it was fine, but it did take them about 2.5 hours to do the job because they have to lift the SC up off the intake plenum to drain it. I attached the suggested service interval PDF from Whipple, 75-100k mi.
After they did the supercharger got quieter, no more "million dwarves beating hammers" sound at idle.
EDIT: After about 2 weeks, I noticed the coolant reservoir looked low, so I refilled it... several times! Apparently it was VERY low, and hence the proper amount of coolant was not being circulated through the intercooler and heat exchanger. Since refilling the million tiny dwarfs have returned.
I have noticed a little hunting for gear, especially holding onto 4th gear too long. It's mostly been in the mountains after the ECU downshifted to assist in braking or keep the cruise control from going over the desired speed. Since I'm on central OH, this really isn't much of a problem. I've also learned just to shift to N for long downhills of 6% grade or higher.

More updates?
Any more updates? Especially with the 4th gear issue? I am debating Magnuson versus URD and would love to hear more. My local shop is pushing Magnuson. I'm looking for a S/C to help me when driving on I-70 in Colorado up the mountains and keeping in 5th gear and doing +70MPH.

I heard the Magnuson tune was pretty lackluster also...

What shop are you using? I'm out in the mtns and don't have a shop but would like a S/C as well. Leaning towards the URD

I get the 4th gear issue when I accelerate hard to about 60mph and let off. I called and spoke to gadget from urd he said it could be an issue with the gyro in the 4Runner with the added power of the supercharger. It’s making the car think it’s going up a hill with a hard acceleration and therefore hanging up. He also said a zero gyro calibration would fix this but would require pulling the ucon ecu and plugging back in the factory ecu to do so. Propbably would take a couple hours to complete. Besides the 4th gear problem under that circumstance, I took my 4Runner from New York to Florida and back last month with zero issues.

Friggin idiot I saw you’ve got the urd ypipe. How do you like it with the supercharger kit installed? I was thinking about picking one up and maybe putting on the urd exhaust too

What has URD to say about loosing all those dwarfs
I am considering which one to get and if the party in the engine compartment is too loud it will affect my choice

I never contacted URD about the sound of a million tiny dwarfs. The mechanic who installed it said it is a normal sound for a twin screw style supercharger, and standard on all Whipple chargers he has worked on, OEM or aftermarket.
You cannot hear it from inside the passenger compartment, only outside the vehicle and only at idle in Park. Obviously as a single person I've never stood outside of my own vehicle with it in gear, so can't say how much you can hear it sitting at the stop light.

The URD Y-pipe and Mk3 Stainless were a real PITA to get right. I ended up going back 9 times to fix leaks. In the end we welded the muffler in place on both sides, cut the Y-pipe on under the tranny and added a flex pipe, added a high-flow cat to the mid-pipe, changed to a side exit tailpipe so I could use the rear window, several fixes for clamps coming loose, and issues with the axle pipe hitting the frame.
If I had to do again, I might do the Y-pipe, absolutely skip the headers (I'm still fighting CEL/Codes), and if you need a cat-back get a side exit from the start ignoring URD's completely (even if it is the only 3 inch). It's currently sealed tightly, quiet at idle and cruising <70mph, but too loud for my liking under even light acceleration or load. If you're considering the y-pipe and other exhaust mods, do the Y-pipe only first and see if you still think you need a cat-back. I'd leave the manifolds alone, just not worth the hassle.
Read this as I'm very happy with the URD/Whipple SC and power it produces. Both my mechanic and I are absolutely dissatisfied and fed up with their exhaust.

I'm in Colorado too... interested in more power but not sure about emissions issues? Does anyone have any input on this?

Question for those with the kit: How did your MPGs fare after installing this kit, particularly on 91 octane?

I was getting almost 19 on stock nittos running 93 octane with a heavy foot. I’ve installed wheel spacers, larger tires and a gobi stealth rack and I’m getting 16.3 now
