Bilstein 8112
The Tacoma crowd seem to like these badboys, I can see that they aren't available for the 4runners yet but FJ's etc. They do look pretty badass though
Thoughts?
I can see the perk of not having to rebuild every 30k

Been keeping an eye on these. Pretty sweet. Time will tell how well they hold up to the real world abuse. It’s about time Bilstein step up their game to get some competition going in the high end segment.

I know noting about these, but based on the rod ends and what I presume are spherical bearings, at least some parts will require regular maintenance. If not
I’d be super curious how.

The front shock is internally very similar to the Tundra TRD Pro Bilstein. Here is a picture of the Zone Controller from a TRD shock that I dissected a couple years back. It only lacks the rebound top-out of the 8112.

Here is the thing though, in my track car days Bilsteins were excellent along with KW and coming into the 4x4 world they just don't seem to get much love. I mean they have the R&D and money to make a really solid products so maybe this is it?
Question is how long before we get them for the 4R'er

I think Bilsteins angle is to not require so much maintenance but who knows

I love the "shock maintenance" numbers that are thrown out there as if they're arbitrary and will never change based on usage.
those are more shock then 99% of these grocery getters will ever need. pretty sweet though not gonna lie.
Bilstein has been in the "high end" game for a long time. they just didn't have an OEM replacement coilover similar to King and Fox.

FWIW I emailed Bilstein today regarding the 8112/5165 availability for the 4Runner and the response I got was that they were in development but could not be given an ETA

You're right but in my case I trail run once an week and daily mine, my prior bilstein experience gives me good vibes on the maintenance front.

One of the reasons why I shy away from King.

what makes you guys think that these will last longer than other high end coilover setups. I am pretty sure it is the same technology....30-40k for weekend warrior DD and less if you bash on it.

lol it was a quick lift before I left to go work in Mammoth. I'm probably still going to buy kings if these bils are at those price points.
As always buy ones cry once. I'm planning a mt setup with front oem setup with adjusters up front and UCAs (not sure what will be best for me tc/dobs/spc). In the rear, I plan on running a steel bumper, so 3" springs with kings +adjusters + extended. I just don't have 4k laying around at the moment. Naw mean.
