Rear center console vents?

I’ve tried a few different settings but it doesn’t seem like I get any airflow out of the rear vents?

Same here. The only way I can get some airflow is by turning the climate control on the front-facing option. Other than that it just leaks out air with little air pressure

There’s a knob in the middle of the 2 vents.

You are doing it wrong, basically you have to close the front vents in order to get the rear vents working.

re:

By most accounts HVAC in 4Runner is mediocre. Fan speed is week on any settings and cabin heating in the dead of winter is lacking. I really wish Toyota had spend a bit more time here and knocked this one out of the park, but unfortunately they didn't. Sigh....

The vents aren't so bad back there.

You just have to realize the rear responds similar to front - meaning if you have it venting on both footwell and up-top vents, it'll reduce the pressure a little.

What most people don't seem to be aware of is that the 5th gen 4runner still has rear vents UNDER the front seats, down by the rear-passengers feet. So air is coming out there, too. Even with the a/c on. So to get more fan pressure on the rear armrest vents, you have to switch the a/c to blow just out of the up-top vents.

Overall, the pressure and amount of air it flows is fine.

The system overall is pretty lacking. In order to get air to the back seats, I typically set it to the upper vents only and close the 4 front vents half way. This will direct more air to the back. Once the the back is cool or warm, I will open the front 4 vents as need be.

The only HVAC system worse than the 4Runner is the Highlanders "rear" climate control. It's pretty much pointless.

I duno, I'm perfectly happy with mine. AC is ICE COLD, heat responds very fast and is more than adequate even on single digit days. Are you guys the same people that keep your house at 80* in the winter? I'm happy at 68-70 tops. Maybe I just like less heat lol
