The C4 bumper adds a lot of clearance compared to the OEM bumper so time will tell if it gets crushed or bent, Im sure it will at some point but who cares, I'll cut it off again

I am preparing for install and considering what I'm going to do with the exhaust.
Do you have any concerns with exhaust fumes coming into the cabin with it exiting under the vehicle?

I have had my exhaust cut back for about 3 years. The exhaust smell into the cabin was slightly improved from stock with it cut back about a foot. I ended up cutting it to there when I kept dragging the exhaust and was damaging the stock bumper. After installing my rear bumper I cut it back to the location indicated in the C4 install video. I had it like that for a couple weeks and honestly didn't smell it at all there. Even though it's winter I open my rear window a lot for my dogs even when it's cold. Since then I had a muffler shop put a 90 on it and aim it towards the side of the truck just behind the rear wheel but not coming out past the bumper. That location seems to be good too. So far no exhaust in the cabin.
My truck is filthy and it's 15 degrees, as soon as I can give her a bath and it's a bit warmer I'll snap a picture

C4 Fabrication 5thGen Rear Bumper
So getting ready for install...
Where have you guys been splicing for camera and license plate light relocation?
I may have to do a 2 part install since I didn’t get the second latch with my shipment. I haven’t laid everything else out yet but hoping that’s the only thing. Should have gone through the bags while stuff was at powder coat instead of the day of install.

For license plate light I tapped into the hitch wiring. I think its the Green and White wire...just look at the diagram on the hitch plug.
The camera is just splicing in the wiring extension. There's a good write up on SSO's website, but stay tuned...it looked like Caleb was working on an install video this week for the camera.

Yeah. I’m gonna order up a single arm swim this weekend. I’ll need a few brews in me to swallow the cost......

If Caleb is the person in the bumper install video, he’s a beast. It took me at least 20 hits to bend the hoops from the spare down he did it in 5. I made a mess of the sheet metal trying to bend that down... I gotta figure out something to make that look a little better.
I’m not sure I like seeing the dirty white behind cut outs and I’m considering pulling the bumper off and painting behind it black. An aluminum plate behind them would look good too but I don’t want to deal with that at this point.

What were your measurements at the top and at the bottom did you place them exactly where Baja rack recommended at 2” top and 2 3/8 at the bottom? Thanks!

1. either he had a different version of your bumper cuz I have seen pics of your bumper with a different latch? Old style maybe?
2. His ladder was positioned differently side to side on his hatch or different thickness of foam under the ladder mount which made the ladder stick out slightly more?
3. difference in the thickness or position of the white plastic blocks on the latch that align it when you close the swing arm?

Its been awhile but yea I think i followed their directions on placement, but there is some play there so you can adjust it a bit, as long as your able to tighten the bottom up.

Thanks! Getting my dual swing out C4 too and have the baja ladder figured I could play around with it once I get the bumper but didn't know how well the double side tape on the ladder would do with me adjusting the top and bottom after it had already been placed....

Well I have a single swing arm so i dont know how different they will be for clearance? As far as the double sided tape, you can always clean it off and put new tape or foam if you need to move the ladder. Its extra work but whatever it takes to be done right

A couple of notes about install for people who haven't done theirs yet.
1. Instructions don't say what hardware to use to install the body filler pieces. Use the 5/16 button heads even though the video says 1/4, there isn't nuts and washers for the 1/4" hardware if you were to use it there.
2. Remove the metal pieces on bumper that held the factory bumper cover in place. The bumper will go on with them there but you can't open the cap on the trailer plug. You cannot remove the top bolt when the bumper is in place.
3. The swing arm bolts take a 1 1/8 socket. You can use a piece of 3/4" PVC pipe inside the socket to keep it from bottoming out on your fresh powder coat.
4. The pinch seam is directly above one of the nuts one the side braces. It is very hard to tighten those up. You may want to hammer that pinch seam over just to make it easier on yourself.
5. License plate light... stay tuned, haven't done it but I think I have a plan. I ordered some weatherproof automotive plug from amazon so I should have a good way to remove the fixture in the event I need to get to my spare.

Thanks emailed C4 and looks like the single and double swings have the same clearance I think the only part I’m nervous about is how much closer the Baja ladder is to the edge of the door where it sticks out about 3.5 inches making contact with the swing arm...

Hey everyone, I know there have been some install questions and tips in the thread. Thanks for posting those up. We worked on a new install video over the weekend that now includes how to wire the backup camera and license plate light. We included a lot more details than the first video so it should be a lot easier to follow along. We will be editing it together and getting it added to the website in a few days. This video should help answer any other questions.
