I wish the original owner/builder would have. Makes no sense to me. Just like how they only installed one outlet in an oversized 3 car garage... SMH.

Funny to see this. I bought my T4R with some scratches on the tailgate that look to have come exactly from this in its last home.

9' doors here though. No problem on the rare occasion that the T4R actually goes inside there to get worked on. It's mainly the JK's home since it sits with no doors or windows or top for 7 months of the year. And that fits no issues with 3.5", 37's, and a firestik sticking up. And the other side is of course garbage cans, shop stuff, kids outdoor toys, bikes, quad and plow (during winter), etc.

Anyway, it's all about the door size. But I suppose what I would do is add padding to the contact area if possible. On the door of course. I wish the prior owner of mine had thought to do so.

I put a length of foam pipe insulation over the small part of the garage door that the tailgate contacts and its been working great for 6 years. Before that, I had one of those pool noodles in the back that I would just stick up there between them when i opened it.

Lucky you if you have a 9 foot door. Most garages have an 8 foot ceiling, unless the garage is considerably lower than the house floor level. That leaves 8 feet to fit the header, a 4x12 spanning 16 feet or so over the opening. So most doors are 7 feet high at the opening and even less below the door if it swings up under the opening. Roll-up doors can rise up above and behind the door opening but not solid wood doors.

If you limit the lift or travel of the tailgate then it won't rise far enough to clear a 6 foot tall person. I have trouble with that when I open the tailgate under my garage door. It's high enough to be out of sight but low enough to smack you in the forehead when you walk into it. Ouch, that hurts!

Just pad the part of the garage door that it may hit. You can also limit how high it opens with some kind of rope connected to one of the lower D rigs then to the hatch. But ideally that's what the power window is for in the back.

Edit: Looks like you got it.

Pool Floaties

I have a metal lip on the bottom of my garage door. I bought 3 or 4 pool floaties, spilt them long ways on one side and they clamped right on the lip. I drilled a few hole through the metal and used wire ties to strap in place. I did this over the summer so i'm hopeful if there is moisture they don't stick to the concrete this winter but since they are inside the door I think they will be ok.

Another suggestion for the pipe insulation. Cheap, comes with a sticky strip and easy.
