5th gen sales have exploded
Over 128,000 sold in 2017!!!! These are numbers that haven't been seen in over 20 years. Pretty good for a vehicle some were claiming could be near extinction back when the sales of the 4th gen were dwindling and even 50k units sold a year was optimistic.
The 5th gen and the mid gen freshening have resurrected the 4Runner to it's former sales glory days and being in Colorado I'm seeing it as new 4Runners are everywhere.
I especially love the 2014 restyle since it doesn't look anything like all the other cookie cutter pseudo SUVs on the road and still looks like a truck.
Nice to see Toyota kept the faith and didn't kill it.

I am seeing more of them in NYC as well. Or maybe its because I am more aware of them since I have one.
Gas prices were lower 6 months ago, but since now we are starting to see $3/gallon, I'm curious how this will affect future sales if price for gas continue to creep up.

Big part of this is the fact that the economy is making a huge come back. I work for a crane company, majority of my customers are in the roofing and construction business. They're literally booked through the year with deliveries. We're so busy we can't keep up with the demand, it's insane. Great thing for everyone.

^Agreed.
'09 only sold 20k because well peak of a recession. It isn't hard to see in the numbers. I bet if you check other manufacturers numbers you will see similar trending.

back in 2014 when they did the facelift, I hated it. The look really grew on me since then, especially since most manufactures are trying to make their cars even uglier.

Here, it's gone from seeing a 4R from time-to-time, to every day. I still see at least as many women driving them as men though -- probably more.

The best is yet to come Phil, when all 4runner owners are going to get the stigma of being idiots because of a few heading offroad acting like dumbasses...

I swear the Fl Panhandle makes up the bulk of the sales.
Can't go anywhere without seeing about a dozen of them.
And the local dealer must have 40 between the main lot and the overflow lot.
They have way more 4Runners than Tundras.
Most of the new are SR5's with dealer installed TRD wheels and the Toyota Garnish.
They are installing the Goodyear Duratrack on all of the dealer installed wheels.
Second most plentiful is the Limited followed by the Trail, and those are mostly the base Trail.

There are so many that I'm thinking about selling mine. It was sort of unique at one time.. Now it is worse than a JK.

Yeah, but yours is from before the mid-cycle refresh and is still unique. 75% of the ones I see and 100% of the ones popping up on instagram #overlandlifestyle bs are 2014+.

Bite your tongue! It’s nowhere near as bad as the Jeeps.

It's getting there. I did a count today.. Still a few more jeeps, but they are becoming the same thing.
People used to stop me at gas stations and ask what it was and how I liked it... give me thumbs up.. My wife would drive it and come home talking about how many people stared and honked at her... Now I just get dirty looks and a few people shooting the bird in old trucks... LOL
It seriously has been a bit overplayed at this point. Oh well, it still drives great and has fantastic overall utility. I just no longer think, "cool looking truck" when I see one. It serves its purpose on the utility side. Just can't decide if I want to keep playing with it as a toy or move on to something new with more possibilities.

I pulled into a small diner parking lot yesterday and I was the third White one there! Out of 20 cars! (mine WAS the best looking though!)
