Weird issue... 2018 4Runner OEM rubber hitch plug(s) are loose?!

Having a weird issue.

I've tried 3 different Toyota oem rubber rear hitch plugs -- you know, those rubber covers that keep you from gouging other cars when reversing if your hitch touches their car?

Well, the plugs I've tried so far seem loose. Not by much, but by like a millimeter.

What gives? Is there supposed to be a sleeve inside the hitch or something? Do they run out of spec ever? Any issue with having the actual hitch be 1mm too large when it comes to actual towing?

Wrap inner with electrical tape. I've lost a number of them across mine and my dad's trucks. Just don't back into anything... Thats what the camera if for right?

As far as I know they all have a built in tolerance to allow for dirt, rust, and other assorted bad things that make installation and removal of the hitch difficult. No big deal. Some folks make inserts with a wedge block that can be tightened to prevent rattling but they are at a premium price.

Yep, that is what I have. I like it because it fits very well and costs only $5 at Lowe's!

OK, so if you lack the simple creativity to realize that in fact these things are actually good for helping protect kneecaps, other people's bumpers when they run into YOU, etc, then there. I just helped you

Thanks for the tips on Reese as well. Will have to check that out. Curious that Toyota makes them too small lol.

I did the opposite. I live in the city and this is my FU to anyone creeping up on my car. Its also handy when cleaning the roof and putting my yaks up there.

If you're hell bent on getting a Toyota hitch plug the one from the Land Cruiser will offer a snug fit on your 4Runner. It will not fall out.
