Aftermarket Upper Control Arms For Steering Stability (Sloppy feel fix?)

Hi Guys,

So myself along with many other especially with 17-18s currently complaining about it when they are brand new and have a steering vibration.

I have been dealing with this now for over a year since I owned my truck. I have now gone through everything with a fine tooth comb having access to a new functioning lift and working at a dealership.

I balanced my wheels numerous times, purchased new wheels and tires which didn't work and am now back to stock which are doing the same again. Road force balanced both sets of wheels/tires, performed countless alignments and torque checks of all front end parts/components.

Now, with all the things I have done I feel it has improved. HOWEVER, there still seems to be a slight shimmy at 90-110kmph randomly. Some days its just fine, others it is not. I am starting to think this could be a geometry issue with steering system.

With all the reading I have done it seems as when people lift their trucks with aftermarket UCA's there vibrations have gone away and steering improved greatly.

I currently have Bilstein 5100's installed @ .85 front lift setting to even my front end out. I am considering purchasing a set of SPC adjustable upper control arms to give the truck a higher positive caster in hopes of that more on centre/returning centre steering feel.

I would like the SPC so I can adjust as needed with either +1.0 / +1.5 / +2.0 options etc without having the built in +3.0 of caster on many others.

Living in Canada I can find these SPC control arms for $625.00 CAD + $40.00 shipping and tax.

I am looking to find any information from anybody to either prove my theory wrong (save me money) or talk about how this may be a possible fix due to personal experience. Your opinions/comments here would be greatly appreciated and I thank you if you have read and listened to me up until this point lol.

I am actively looking at this forum daily so feel free to ask any questions etc.

-Mike.

It's wheel balance, 99.99% of the time. This platform is very sensitive to it, and even if you have perfectly balanced tires, you'll still get vibes from flat spotting.

I have run stock, LR and Total Chaos UCAs. I have fought wheel balance in all configurations for the last 215K miles.

The SPC's are good, I run them on my 4th gen. I'm not sure it'll fix your wheel shimmy but maybe it's worth a shot to raise the caster around 4-5* and see how it feels.

Sounds like you've gone over everything pretty much. Have you checked the wheel hub flange runout? I would also check the runout on the rotors. Should be next to none.
