2018 with gunmental glove box trim spider-cracking?
I have a 2018 TRDOR with the gunmetal colored, brushed metal looking trim piece above the glove box. I noticed when the sun was on it that it seems to have a lot of faint little spider cracks on it, almost like it's drying out.
Has anyone else noticed this? Trying to figure out if it's an anomaly, or if they all look like that, but doesn't get any worse, maybe?
Last q - not sure whether to plastidip or viny-wrap it. The trim piece isn't easily removable, so not sure what my options are unless I ask the dealer to take the dash apart to fix it... which I'm not sure I trust them to do, haha.

Any chance you can post a picture ? It’s extreemly hard to understand what it could be by your explanation.
What kind of cloth material or chemicals do you use to clean it?

Some interior protectant with uv blocker. Used the same stuff in two other cars with no issues. The issues are as stated, like tiny little etching scratches - would be hard to get in a pic until daytime

I have noticed this on my 2016 also. Curious to see what the dealer would say if you bring it up.

Has yours gotten any worse over time, or just a little and then no worse?

Nope.. like little crystalline ones... like almost as if faint frost was forming on glass.

Interesting. I have a 2016 and use a damp microfiber cloth to clean it and do not have the marks you described.
Let’s us know what the dealership says.

Still would like more info from anyone. Not sure I will talk to the dealership about it for the reasons mentioned.

The color on mine started faded, or something, after about one year. I always use a sun shield too.

That's f'n terrible! Man the durability of Toyota interiors sure is going downhill. Thankful my '13 has the old grey "standard" interior material. There was a moment in time I actually considered upgrading that trim (another member posted a thread), it looks good, but damn if its failing that hard, no way am I dropping that kind of money.
The black plastic in the back of 5th gens, holey crap it bruises easy. I could throw boxes of rocks (lol and I have ) in my 3rd and yeah it would scuff and damage but nothing like this stuff.

I don't know if it's a 1 in 1000 type issue, or 1 in 10. Figuring that out will help me know if it's worth adding some possible rattles (by having the Dealer monkeys open up the dash) just to get a new trim piece that fades too...
... or whether I plastidip it some cool color or something.

My 2016 Trail had the same issue. I brought it up to the dealership during each visit and it took 3 different trips to finally get it replaced. The service rep said they had to talk to the Toyota corporate rep for authorization to replace it under warranty. It was replaced about 2 months ago and the new trim has no issues so far.
