I have been to the dealer for this issue before on other cars. The first step will be to confirm temp at the vent. How you feel is subjective. The air coming out of the vent should be like 20-30 degrees cooler.

Bring it into the dealer since you have warranty. Problem solved.

With my temp setting on the lowest and the blower speed also on the lowest (1 tick) it is ice cold. I usually have to raise the temp because it's too cold.

yeah, i may run it higher to initially cool the vehicle but after that i'm usually on the low setting with the temp at least a few clicks above cold

Did you end up getting it checked at the dealer? My Ď14 SR5ís A/C is weak. I can run it full blast and never get cold. My 3rd gen on the other hand blows ice cold air.

Yup. They admitted itís not that cold and recharged it. Didnít change a darn thing. I could take a cold shower and drive around naked and it wouldnít chill me out. My warranty runs out in a few months. Want to take it back but what can I expect?!! I took it in twice and they sort of blow it off.

Keep taking it back, if the dealer has already documented warm blowing air within the warranty period and the problem persists it should be covered under the original 3 year/ 36k mile warranty after it has expired. But you need to keep having this documented and put your foot down (you paid good money for this 4Runner).
As a former Honda master technician I cant tell you how many customers have complained about warm A/C when its actually not. I would take them in their car, stick several thermometers in the dash vents and simulate normal driving conditions on a test drive. typically 30-40 degrees is great, always will get slightly warmer air under stopped conditions as RPMs are lower. Get the concrete evidence and ask for this to be shown to you if this Toyota dealer is trying to brush you off when you're truly having problems call Toyota of North America, But documentation is imperative. Worst case you take that documentation and find another Toyota dealership to take a look at it.
Hope this is helpful!

Agreed get it documented before warranty runs out. That saved my ass on the front diff bearing as I reported it before warranty ran out. I also suggest you call or email Toyota corp, they will assign you an incident #. That will help too if the warranty runs out before it gets fixed.

Had same AC prob with a Ford when I lived in PHX - not good.

Get a meat thermometer and put it in the vent. See what kind of temps its putting out. Compare it to another vehicle, another 4Runner if you can. Or maybe another inmate here can do the same and post results.

Thanks guys. Will do!! Iíve read other peopleís complaints and thought I had to settle. A friends Ď15 SR5 will make you Freeze and my girlfriends Honda Civic will freeze everyone in the car too. I shouldnít say mine is blowing warm, itís not warm air actually but itís not cold. Itís cool af best. Even with 70 degrees it wonít get cold enough that youíd want to turn it down. It sucks !

Iím pretty sure youíve checked already, but just in case... I was having the same issue in my 16 since new. Ended up changing the cabin air filter during my last oil change and noticed a HUGE difference. Used a cheapo fram cabin filter from Wally World. Stock filter didnít seem too dirty either.

Just because the tint has the name 3M doesn't mean it's good. I am sure they probably fixed it by now, but in the past 3M tint turned purple over time. Find a good reputable tint shop and they should know what the best tint is.

I noticed that the 4runner has pretty weak blowing A/C and it is not ice cold. It is cold but not freezing. My old lexus sc430 would freeze your fingers in a minute on low haha. I attributed it to maybe a bigger condenser in a v8 or something. like others have said; fork out the cash for ceramic tint all around and life will be good again.

Try This

I had an 2017 SR5 with the same issue. I lived with it through the 2018 Tucson summer. I had Cool A/C but not cold A/C. I finally fixed the problem last month by doing this:

1. While driving (on a deserted road ideally) turn Temp to Max Cold (hard left on the Temp dial)
2. Turn Fan to Max High (hard right on the Fan dial)
3. After a few seconds, dial the Air Flow position dial to the setting two clicks left of Defrost which is a person icon with down arrow to legs and a defrost icon and wait a few seconds.
4. Now rather aggressively dial air flow position to the left, selecting the Air Flow position with a person icon and an arrow down to legs and arrow right to face (A few clicks off hard left)

You will hear a vent shut. It was that open vent, likely leading to the engine compartment or outside, which was competing the A/C cold air flow into the cabin, at least for my situation.

After dong 1-4 above once, I no longer have to go through those steps. Possibly factory settings somehow stick the vent open until a one-time force shut using this "procedure".

You only know a good A/C system if you live somewhere warm enough to find out.

My A/C works 'on spec', yet I found the 4Runner A/C as one of the weakest I've owned. Rear passengers in summers will not get cool air

I added ceramic tints, an auxiliary fan up front that runs with with compressor, keep filters clean...etc. It helped a bit, and I got used to being a bit warmer than I like. That is the sad truth.

Who know? - maybe some of the 4Rs have this problem:

Documented it with Toyota USA. They have in their notes the dealer had my A/C at 44 last time I complained and thatís within specs. Didnít say it was recharged or not. Whether the service guy was trying to be nice or what, he said they recharged it and admitted to me that whatever they got it at it wasnít that cold.

will try that procedure of cranking it on max and full power and going from the positions you indicated.

Toyota said some case manager will call me tomorrow. I said Iím not trying to stir issues just would be great if it could be fixed before warranty runs out. My next service (30k) is in a few weeks. I think they do change the cabin filter at 30k. So maybe that will help too. And if not seems if itís in spec Iíll have to learn to live with it like others and consider tint. For sure back seat passengers donít get cooled off and you can crank it all day and the front seat passengers wonít need to turn it down. Iím in LA and can get hot , and occasionally when Iím driving on road trips through more desert type areas to the east it really doesnít seem sufficient.
