'10-'13 Trails - Are They Worth More
I've read here, and a few other places, as one-off comments that the pre-refresh Trail Editions are somewhat rare and worth more than one might expect... I''m not seeing a lot of evidence for this online but do any of you have experience to validate this?
Sorry, I missed the ? in the title and can't edit it

Ive got a 2010 Trail and so far no one on the street has offered me anything for it. What a rip off.
Lol but seriously, I preferred the pre-facelift look and spent a good amount of time searching for a 2010-2013 TE. Price I paid wasn't outrageous so not sure if they are more treasured or not.

I just looked at the Manheim Market Report for 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14 Trail model 4Runners. As expected, the actual auction sale prices, looking back for the last 4 months, decrease as the model year decreases. The market does not appear to support what other's may claim.

The 2009 Trails were like hens teeth. I am pretty sure numbers produced jumped up a LOT when the 2010’s arrived.

They were definitely rarer. In 2010 Toyota sold ~50,000 4Runners, of which I think ~2,000 were trails, so about 4%. Now I think trails, or TRD Off Roads, which is what they are called now, represent about 10% of 4Runners sold. And that's 10% of a much bigger base.
I see maybe 1 2010-2013 trail every other month, MAYBE. But I see newer ones all the time. That said, I don't think they're worth more, but just wait 10 more years and hipsters will be paying stupid prices for them like 80 and 100 series Landcruisers with a billion miles on them.

Biggest benefit for me would be the manual transfer. Rear locker is somewhat easy for a shop to install. I have seen some 10 -13 Sr5's with manual transfer case levers.

I agree that the numbers may be right for an aftermarket locker. The e-locker can be very frustrating at times. But that still brings to the table the issue of install quality and/or personal competence. Definitely a great option for the right person though.
I also would not trade crawl control or MTS for a-trac, which I practically do not use, so there is that too. I know purists do not like crawl control but there is no beating a computer controlling the wheels and the powertrain, which is priceless when not having a spotter and trying to get the best view possible of the terrain.

Do we know about how many were produced? There were less than 20,000 sold in 2009 total but the model year numbers should be different, possibly even worse? And then the % of TE...super rare indeed.

I don't know if they are worth more or not, but they are scarce, don't know of I would say rare. I see a few around town every week. The dealerships must think they are worth more because they list a damn lot of trail models 2010-2012, even thought it clearly says SR5 or Limited on the pillar.
I believe in 2011, there was an earthquake and Tsunami in Japan that halted production of the 4runners for awhile. I got mine just before the shutdown
Less 4runners = less trail models.

If you think about it from 2010-2013 TE there were TRD trims on the front bumper, flares and rear bumper. You get chrome on the sr5 and limited. The new refresh 2014-2019 4runners sr5 and limited owners are buying trd pro trims to "blacken" their trims. 2010-2013 TE was the TRD Pro before it's time. It comes with sunroof standard, dual power adjusted seats, hood scoop and TE parts, some models had KDSS. Not that many TE are made, dealers are asking ~$25k for them with 100k miles.
Also to note, crawl control and manual transfer case shifter on 2010-2013 TE... TRD pro has that too. The sliding cargo tray is a plus as well. The only option you are missing is heated seats. You get TE wheels and blacked out softex which is a lot easier to clean. TRD Pro owners are actually reverting to the TE roof rack as well.

my "TRD Pro" TE. Don't pay the premium TRD PRO when you can get a TE with TRD parts.

That me! Makes my heart all warm when I jump into my car each day seeing it sitting there. And that's after having a ear-to-ear grin while approaching the front fascia of my truck

They are some of the rarest and most easily recognizable of the 5th generations, but most of them--like mine--have been heavily used and time isn't nice to Toyotas.
I'm guessing if you find one you'll pay market value for it. I can't imagine they'd be worth more since they just have the pre-refresh interior which is pretty plain and the only distinguishing features are the manual transfer case shifter, different instruments, and bare black plastic cladding.
KDSS is still a feature on the new Trail/TRDs so that's not unique, either.
