Transmission Cooler?

I just bit the bullet and brought hoMe a 2018 SR5 Premium. I have been driving my 2003 V8 for the last 6 years and using it to tow my boat but thought it was time for something new. My 2003 has a transmission cooler which could easily be seen in front of the radiator and came as part of the towing package. My SR5 has the towing package but so much of the engine compartment is covered by plastic panels anything including Jimmy Hoffa could be hidden in there including a transmission cooler. I have 2 questions. Does the 5the generation have a transmission cooler and secondly, will I need one? I will be towing at or near the limit of 5000lbs. Here’s a picture of my our new ride with my 14 yo daughter. She thinks she is going to get it when she goes to college. Hence the tears. We’ll see!

So rather than tell me whether my new truck has a transmission cooler or not, which I am sure you know, you have the audacity to tell me to do a search , knowingl I have been a member of the 4th generation forum for 6 years. Geez! I did a search and it would take me an hour to wade through all the irrelevant posts to find the answer to a simple question. I meant to ask the dealer but I bought the truck the morning before work and had to get to the office and was a-bit rushed .Thanks for your help lack of help.

Looking underneath my 2018 ORP, I see two rigid fluid lines coming from the transmission traveling forward. Likely IN/OUT to/from a cooler. Can’t think of any other reason for them.

There are quite a few dickheads here who will spend the time to type a gripe that you should have searched, when it would have taken them the same time to answer your question. Certain moderators are just as guilty.

From what I read the people who tow a lot are installing the B&M trans coolers as the 4R does not come with one. Check this vid out, older but it still applies. https://youtu.be/voplmkru63A

Also, shout out to SSI. I used to work there, off Glynco Parkway.

You don't have a transmission cooler. You will want to get one for sure. I towed a 19ft camp trailer below 5k lbs with mine stock and monitored temps. I reached 260F at 1 point, total unacceptable. I installed a massive cooler and now the highest is 209F in the hottest part of the summer in southern utah

That's the small cooler in the bottom of the radiator. It's insufficient when actually towing anything large

Fluidyne Fluid Coolers DB-30115

I have these on 2 of my trucks and while they are not cheap Fluidyne is probably one of the top cooler makers. Picture below is the fluidyne vs a stock 2nd gen Taco tow package cooler and the other is it mounted on my Taco project truck. The one on my 4runner is on a thermostat and once it kicks in it just holds the temp for a short period and climbs then drops till the stat closes it. Well worth the money....

What is it going to hurt if he does start a thread for every question? Why would you waste time opening, much less posting in this thread if you’re going to get butt hurt about people not searching.

I agree that people should search first, I hardly have any posts because I’ve mostly lurked and been able to answer my questions through google etc. but I seriously don’t understand the toxicity on this forum about the issue.

You’re saying people who answer questions, no matter how simple, and try to help out fellow owners are dickheads?? Are you freaking kidding? Does this make you feel superior? Do you have such little else in your life that you have to play the search police on a car forum??

Took the time to look through your post history, only made it 4-5 pages but looks like this cry baby ***** is one of your “things”, guess it does get you off. Also didn’t see much else much else of worth, so I’d go as far to say your shit attitude and 3,500 posts are more worthless than this simple transmission cooler thread. At least this will add to the info for the next person.

I seriously don’t understand how simple questions posted on a public form can cause people to be so ugly to one another even if it’s the 50th time this month it’s been asked.

Try not to worry about it. *******s are everywhere and the internet is an easy way to be one without getting blood in their teeth. Just do your thing and let em be mad.
