Trd sport suspension

I purchased a new 4runner trd sport with Xray Arse shocks.
Was I a fool?
What say you?

Took me a bit but XREAS. Eh I think it's fine if you don't want to change suspension. If you do then you have to ditch the whole system.

Do most owners get more than 60K miles from the system?

I am not unhappy with the setup, would have preferred kdss ,but this was available and was already stretched budget wise anyways and didn't need a diff lock and crawl control etc of the offroad.
Just hear the premature failure stories and wonder how common that actually is?

just run it and enjoy it. when/if it fails, replacie with dobinsons/bilstein/eibach. Seems to be a nice setup for daily driving

Only if you dont swap them out at some point for real shocks or coilovers. I dunno, I found my XREAS was nice on the highway but absolute shit on mild slightly uneven roads or even those tar strips. Very brittle ride with stock tires. I was very happy when I took bolt cutters to them and sent them to hell!

Sounds like you were running overinflated tires?

all the limiteds (including TRD sport) come with XREAS, and it was equipped on some 4th gen as well, so the issues are pretty well documented, see the links above.

it's covered by warranty unless it's not. many owners get a full replacement if it fails early, but that often depends on the dealer.

it's great for on-road driving, and most replace it with a standard set of some other suspension. my XREAS have now worn out around 130k, so if you learn anything worth sharing let me know before i get them replaced.

what were your stock wheels/tires? mine was very rough riding on 20s with the yoko HTs that came stock, and is very nice with 17s and ATs, without swapping out the XREAS.

Mine were stock 20s with I think Yoks on them. Its not a tire issue as they sidewalls arent super stiff.

I have removed the 20s a few weeks after getting it on one of my Limiteds. Now I only run the following on one limited, the other limited stays stock with 20s and XREAS still so comparisons are easy.

MT Cooper ST Pros 265-70-17 8 inch wheel 40psi-42psi C rated
AT BFG K02 265-70-17 8.5 inch wheel 40 psi E rated
Snows Blizzak DMV2 265-70-17 P rated 32psi

XREAs is an interesting system but like most all in one systems its generally ok on most stuff but never really shines on anything either. I ripped it out and went with Kings, which have been far smoother in comparison, even when valves are set on stiff.

I only have around 3K miles on the vehicle, but coming from a highlander ride is quite good considering the solid rear axle.
There is less brake dive than expected. I test drove a new limited 4yrs ago and it had a lot of brake dive.Around the same.time I also test drove a trd offroad with kdss and that dive was not as apparent, interestingly thre sport feels closer to the offroad from memory but that could be just a bad memory.
Does the trd sport have different suspension tuning to the limited?

I could more.imagine a tendency to buck over large undulations with such a system rather then not handling small imperfections
