Digressive or Progressive? KDSS Suspension Upgrade Help Please
I've been wanting to do a lift for a while now. I thought I was settled on the 6112/5160 option, but just read that the 6112's are digressive. I understand this is good for controlling body roll, but I already have KDSS. I have no body roll. Don't I want a progressive shock?
I'm thinking of doing a smaller lift, probably 2". My primary use is for family camping to cool remote locations. We mostly do easy to moderate trails. Anywhere from a weekend trip to 2 weeks. With RTT, and full camp loadout, as well as 3 people, my truck is pretty squishy. I want to up the springs a notch as well.
My budget is limited, so I can't do a dream set-up. I was thinking of 5100's all the way around, but after you add springs, their about as much as 6112's, so I thought may I'd go with those, until I read about the regressive valving. I'm open to other suggestions as well. I understand at only 2", I won't need UCA's.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I'm not a suspension expert. But IMO the best bet would be progressive compression and digressive rebound. If you want to go crazy - accutune would build a custom valving for KDSS. Otherwise most everything is going to be built for the 95% that don't have KDSS.
ICON is the only one I know of that has a progressive compression and digressive rebound valving off the shelf. But there may be others too.

i thought icon was digressive but most of the others (radflo, fox, king, etc...) were progressive or linear. i know accutune says most icons are digressive and most fox and kings are linear.
i've also been curious about progressive shocks with KDSS

Similar budget and use. Interested to see which route you go.
Edit: For what its worth I was planning on a two inch from Dobinsons with the shocks that make up for the KDSS lean (was going to custom order from the rep on here). Wasn't really too concerned with what type of valving as they are proven and have plenty of happy customers. But now I'm interested to see what you come up with.

I'm actually running a mix. 6112's up front and Icon 2.0 series in the rear.
I can say I love the 6112's and think it's great match for KDSS. I can't say the same for the rear, as I don't have enough weight in the back currently. When I'm fully loaded or trailer-ing, I LOVE it. But unloaded and anything under half a tank of gas and it feels like I'm riding in a buckboard wagon. Part of that is also my spring choice (wheelers T12), so be sure to keep that in mind as well.
I don't regret my choices, but I do say that to warn others if they're planning on running it with everything else stock. Plan accordingly.

I think I saw a thread the other day that someone was installing the Dobinsons, and wound up backing out the offset.

I had the same concerns when i installed 6112's on my kdss. It rides great. not harsh at all, even with the E rated ko2's.

I used to be a mechanic but IDK what, "backing out the offset" means.

According to at least accutune who is one of the best-known shock rebuilders, they've stripped a few of them down and they are progressive in compression and digressive in rebound only They have a write-up on their website with quite a few pictures of internals comparing the various brands.
