305/70/17 on 17x8.5 SCS Wheels?
Anyone running 305/70/17 on SCS wheels? Im about to make the jump to 305 but am wondering what issues I may run into. Not currently running spacers but have been thinking about it.
McQueen fenders go on next week as well.
Tried to do a quick search but didn't find anything.
Any help appreciated.

I switched from 285/70/17 to 305/65/17 and the 305's rub a lot more due to the width. The 305/70/17 is basically a 34" tire so you'll rub all sorts of places. You'll need to trim front fender a ton and chop the body mount as much as possible as well as removing the mud flaps. I'm going to go up to that size once mine wear out.
Good luck! Let's see some photos when you get them mounted.

@ weeeee
and I are both running 305's. You're gonna have a lot of trimming to do. I've done an aggressive body mount chop and trimmed and flattened the body seam in the fender well. I still rub body when compressed at full lock, but thats because I haven't yet taken a sledge hammer to the back of my fender well yet.
@ weeeee
has done that and I don't think rubs back there anymore. You'll also want to look at upgrading your bumpstops as you'll be hitting the top of the fender with the tire.

That's exciting to hear. I'll be switching to 305/70 soon on my 17x9 F5's. I clear the 295s easy.

Are you asking about rim width or wheel offset? Just for clarification.
Edit: cancel that.

Be prepared to chop a lot of front inner fenders. I went from 305/65 to 295/70 and think the 295 is a better size proportionally. I have no idea how guys fit 35s in there.
295s are slightly taller and narrower than 305s:
295/70 is 33.5" x 12"
305/65 is 32.8" x 12.5"
The last pic is the 305s

Yea, i'm running 305/70/17's on SCS Ray10's. Like
@ NoOneBetter
and
@ weeeee
, I run McQueen fenders. I have Timbren bumpstops in the rear and Superbumps in the front.
I don't seem to be rubbing in the rear, but I have Dobinson's 677V progressive coils, so I bet as they stiffen they keep my butt up. We'll see if that changes when i put the Pelfrey rear on.
In the front I rubbed enough to rip off the rocker end caps. They are both somewhere in the mountains of Colorado now...didn't mean to litter!
I too rub a little in the back of the wheel well. Its not too bad, but you can see some marks from where the front has compressed enough to rub. I ask for my caster to be at +4 and the alignment techs usually get it there or 3.9.
First three photos are blahhh, but they are the most recent. Last one was taken by

Been ruining the MTRs in 305 70 17 for years...(but on an 8" FN rim) took lots of trimming, body mount chop, plus relocation of the washer bottle. Alignment also has to be dead on with as much + caster as you can get. Spacer would cause lots of rub. It's so tight in all areas it is crazy.. but I basically don't rub at all unless under extreme deflection.

If you want the height but not the width, you can run a 285/75-17, both are a 33.8in tall tire. Still requires trimming of both the front and back of the front wheel well along with a body mount chop. Like
@ 4Running303
, if I had a rocker end cap piece, it would most definitely rub there as well. I haven't had any other rubbing up inside the wheel well arch, even when compressed. No issues rubbing anywhere in the rear.

This is all great info.
Forgot to mention that I'm currently running a C4 lo-pro bumper but am waiting for my CBI full bumper to be delivered in about 4 weeks.
Thanks all!

Sweet. I am thinking hard of 305/65/17 KO2's, since I love this tire. My hesitation with 285/70 KO2's is that they tend to run small and look too narrow - well, 305 fixes that! PS, Her4RunnerLife on IG runs 305/65/17 and has a lot of pictures of it.
I first considered 295/70/17 but KO2's don't come in this size and thus I'd have to go Nitto Ridge Grappler or Toyo R/T or KM3 and I think a true AT might be my better bet.

I run 305/70-17's as well, on 9" rims. Came from 285/75-17. Most of the above is spot on, lot's of trimming and run your caster as high as possible. I have mine at about 4.9*. A front bumper makes it far easier. No issues with rubbing in the rear but I run a lot of coil back there giving me 3" lift. I do run extended bump stops in the front but not the rear due to running the Sonoran Steel KDSS Trac Bar which makes them undesirable.
FWIW I found it easier to fit the 285/75-17's than the 305's. Both Ridge Grapplers. And the 285's were much lighter.
I'll snap some pics this afternoon.

305/65r17 vs 295/70r17
Every time I start thinking about going bigger in tire size I always revert back to these posts. Thank you for the reality check.
I’m currently running 275/70r17 and I am approaching the high wear mileage on my treads. I made the mistake of buying tires for my rig before lifting it. After lifting it, my 4RUNNER looks like it skipped leg day at the gym. So I’m happy to report it’s almost time for new rubber.
I often dream of running 305’s but after reading up on all the fun things one needs to do to make it happen, I’m convinced 295’s will be my go to.
Cheers 🍻 to all you guys running 35’s! I look forward to your posts on Instagram 😁

305/70r17 on 8.5” f5s. Heavy bmc, hammered pinch welds, trimmed bumper and fender mounting tab. No rubbing with mild articulation on FS off shoots but I really haven’t given the full beans. Timberen in the back durobumps in the front. Toyo at3 tires
