I installed a Thule Motion XT size XL on a set of LFD cross bars, with stock side rails and it fit just fine. It actually set just a tad higher than the stock cross bars, but when loaded up with winter gear for 1500 km it worked just great. With stock cross bars and the same box i would get occasional front end box bounce due to the turbulent air flow, which sometimes meant i had to slow down as the front end of the box hit the roof. However with the LFD bars, no issues at all, even with high winds. It may that the LFD bars are flat as opposed to the curve the OEM bars have, or the small amount of additional height from them, but I would say they worked great.
I will say, make sure you get the faring, as without they do tent to make a howl or whistling noise above 100kph/60mph. With the ski box on the rails, this wasn't an issue, only if there was nothing mounted on the rails. Ya, i know it's recommended to remove rails when not using. But who does that, really?
