Honestly, I am not sure why people think that buying a new auto, using it for a few years and selling would result in anything but a net loss. I mean this has been the case as long as they have been making cars. You drive off the lot you lose 20% at best and it just goes down from there. You will get a better return than most as long as 4runners are “trendy”.
I agree the memories far outwiegh most fininacial losses of this nature.

Status Update
I have an update for my search-
I went out Saturday (2.2.19) and bought a 2019 Forester Limited.
It came to about the same price as a used 4Runner/GX.
The car has more tech than I have ever seen and gets seriously good mpg.
It came to me with 106 miles and I am in love. It has road manners of my older Nissan but with 8+ inches of ground clearance, off road AWD modes, and crazy amounts of tech I will be set.
Thank you for all of your help with this!
-Spencer

To be honest, I drove a limited and just found it underwhelming. The tech is old and the features are minimal. I know that you don't buy a 4Runner for the tech or gas mileage but for me, the Subaru is a better fit. I would most likely end up selling a 4Runner is 3 years because I got tired of it.
My money was better spent on new tech and better mileage that I will use everyday, whether moderately offroading or driving to work.

Kind of the same reason the Limited doesn't have kdss - it would cut into Land Cruiser sales.

My salesman said that about the OR and the A/C seats

I love subaru but everytime I go to the dealer I see a few cars with engine out service. New impreza, forrester's and of course the STi. To each his own.

If I could do it all over again, I would have never run the Mobil 1 Delvac Synthetic 75w90 oil in the transfer case. After 185K miles on a 2014 SR5, not running the Toyota 75w transfer case oil has ruined the resale value.

SR5 4X4 in Barcelona Red.
That's it.
I just purchased a 2019 SR5 4X4 in super white. I love it, but super white was my 2nd favorite choice for color. Barcelona red had to be ordered, and i didn't want to wait a month for a higher maintenance paint. Every time i see a red one, i want it.

I’m kind of new to the party. I just found and read the 28 pages on the topic. 7 years of discussion of front and rear diff fluid info. And lots of heat and controversy about transfer case fluid. Ha! Love it!
Front and Rear Diff fluid change
Thanks for this.

19 ORP with KDSS
I have done a fair amount of modding thus far, my only regret, and it is a big one, is installing the Borla S Type exhaust.
First, the tip was nothing like the photos and had worst clearance than stock.
Installer cut off the new OE exhaust into 5 pieces, trashed.
I do not like the sound at all
Had tip modded to match what the photos look like
Now in the hot weather it has melted my Pro valance, so clearly why they changed the design. But not update on their web page
Just ordered a stainless turn down tip to redirect the heat better, might have to cut more of the Borla tip off for it.
Then either cut out the melted part of the valance or buy a new one. Both options require me to remove the rear bumper again. Time and money....
Might have to look at the 2020 Pro exhaust when it is available.
