Paint on Roof is fading weathered - call Toyota

If you are having issues with your paint, please contact Toyota @ (800) 331-4331. They said if enough people call in, they will create a warranty enhancement program to fix the paint condition.

The paint on my 5th gen 4runner is fading. It looks weathers, although I have been hand washing and waxing my car faithfully. Some Tacoma owners have had the same issue.

Here are some pictures of my 2013 4Runner. [IMG][/IMG]

Thanks

1st time I’ve seen a problem like this on 5th gens.

Out of curiosity what wax or sealant have you used? And is the vehicle outside most of the time?

you didn't have something fabric like one of those fabric cargo carriers resting there?

it looks like it's from abrasion and the lines going across are where the fabric was wrinkled and not in contact with the paint

No, that's clearcoat failure.

The clearcoat on my 2000 Tacoma did the same thing.

Do you park outside?

What kind of windshield washer fluid are you using?

Please, Please expand on this if you have any information. This is happening on my little Acura RSX right where the spray would hit the roof a bit above my windshield. Only ever used the blue methanol stuff for spray.

2013 has no clear coat. One step painting process was used for most dark colors. You have to wax twice a year to keep original shine.

Any clear coat will fail in the southern sun if not properly cleaned and protected from the harmful UV rays.
You need to wax your paint at least twice a year if you live in S Florida.

Toyota will do nothing for clear coat failure. Not hating, just saying... chalk it up to living in the sunshine state.

Even the Metallics? I would be very surprised. I can understand white, black, or red, but a single stage metallic silver would be a shocker to be. That looks like clear failure.

Yes it’s outside and we live in hot and humid S Florida. However, the wife’s Honda paint looks better and her CRV is older than my 4runner.

I use the windshield washer fluid from the dealer. That’s where I get all the service done.

Curious about what wax you’re using . I’ve lived in southwest Florida all my life and have never had a paint problem in the 25 cars I’ve owned here .
