Passenger door speakers not working.

So I have a 2011 SR5 with the basic stock radio. Purchased the car used a few months ago w/100k miles and it looked like new. All the records etc.

I just realized the passenger door speakers don’t work. Front speakers work fine. Tailgate speakers work when Party Mode is on. But rear passenger speaker make no sound in any mode or fader position. There are speakers there but they just don’t work.

You can tell the car was never abused and well kept.

Any ideas?

Hi jwinn,

...sure! I'm surprised that they lasted that long to be honest! Just remove the trim panel from the passenger door. Get a multi-meter set to 'AC-Volts'. Connect your red and blk leads to the speaker wires; doesn't matter which lead goes to POS or NEG cuz it's ac current! Turn on your music with the HU set to feed ALL speakers and look for any voltage change (1.5 to 5 volts), just to prove that the speakers are getting a music signal.

You could also ohm out the speakers to check for continuity but you don't have to! The Speakers are probably blown; considering the level of junk that Toyota threw in there, and when water gets in there; like from the snow or rain, it freezes in cold weather, which cuts the cheap voice-coils in the $5 dollar speakers, so "Game-Over"! Please be sure to let us know what you find out, just for a reference for the next poor guy/gal who's having similar troubles!

rig, cheers!

Thanks guys. I did a search but most people had issues with lift gate speakers or had a different radio so I posted my own.

Seems odd the speakers would be blown. Never blown a set of speakers. My ‘96 4Runner speakers worked just fine up until I sold it a few months ago and the speakers in my ‘02 Expedition still work great.

Guess I’ll have to pull it apart and see what happens

...AHHH,

but you've Never had a set of speakers as cheap as these! I changed my dash and front door speakers just a little while back; HUGE IMPROVEMENT! The rears still need to be swapped out but since I don't sit back there... lol!

cheers!

Oh,

...if you're not getting a music signal at the passenger speakers, just post again and we'll help you to ring it out!

Hi Tech-team,

I've decided to leave these 'Gen-5' "Audio system mod" links here with you; seems very relevant at this time: "the alpine 1" dash component review" & The "Party mode" tweak! (non JBL) 'Best to you ALL',

I just got the exact same vehicle, in the same like new condition , with the exact same problem. Leads me to believe it is likely to be some strange setting, what did you find out ??? Thanks

In some unusual cases the little neodymium magnets on the back of the cheap factory speakers can get so hot the magnet will actually fall off!
