I too have been trying to find a solution to the gap where the mud flaps use to be located. Thanks for the giving me another idea.

As you can see I chopped up the rear mud flap to fill the gap. I have some poly rubber that I am trying to make some mud flaps out of. Just having trouble coming up with a mounting solution with out putting holes in the new bumper.

The factory receiver is 4 bolts, if you're not using it, remove it. FYI the exhaust hangs just as low. So you'll have to cut that too. If that doesn't solve the issue, buy a Jeep. For me, departure angle wasn't important, design, fit and function were. It's a killer bumper don't get hung up on departure angle you may never need. If I drag that receiver across some rocks guess what, it just saved the powder coat. Lol.

The old over the shoulder and mirror technique. Haven't started messing with that just yet. I have a few ideas, borrowing some jeep accessories I think I've got a solution. Stay tuned.

I've been eyeing up the single arm model, as I use my ladder quite a bit, and am not a fan of their ladder. I'd love to get the dual swing arm and modify the second arm to fit... but who wants to cut up a $$$$$$ new bumper?!
|
$250 for powder coating. I did two colors Appliance White and Satin Black for the mounting brackets.
I know a lot of people are turned away by the incompatibility of the Gobi Ladder which honestly blows my mind. And the fact that people would modify the bumper before the ladder. I thought about this a lot. Ladder $250 vs. Bumper $2000. If I really wanted the Gobi ladder, I would just cut the last 2 feet of the ladder and replace it with straight tube. That would give you the clearance you need to clear the arms. Accessing the roof rack by climbing on top of the spare tire isn't an issue, but I am also 6'3". Just my $.02.

Unfortunately I dont think these swing arms work with a Gobi ladder... Unless I'm completely mistaken?
|
I was unaware of the customer service issues. I had a great experience. Took some time to get the bumper, but when I got it I understood why. Ill be honest, only issue I had was with the shipping carrier. When it showed up, the shipment was trashed, and I mean trashed. Like it had fallen from 6 feet in the air. I have experience shipping very heavy items all over the world and I've never see anything this bad. Thankfully everything was in good shape, and it was just some torn up cardboard.

Ill have to look into these CS issues. Like I said above, I had a good experience.
My advice. Don't be a sheep. I don't let anyone's experience or opinion sway me. If it's something I know is good just by looking at it, and something I want, I'll pull the trigger, regardless of what others have said. If I have a bad experience, well then I had a bad experience. I knew what I was after, and this bumper checked those boxes. End result, very happy.
I totally understand where you're coming from though. It's a big purchase, no one wants to flush that money down the toilet. Wait a few months to be totally unhappy. Totally get it. Us Toyota owners have expectations to the moon. Totally fine, that makes the aftermarket parts that much better, because the bar is set high.

Nice, looks great! Figured it was paint not PC, pretty damn close color match.
I was looking at the single arm. Don't really need the Jerry can mount, and I much prefer my Gobi ladder. I use it a fair amount! If I were to do the dual swing out, I'd modify the arm, not the bumper. I have access to welding and fab equipment, so it doesn't sound tooooo serious. Famous last words, right?

If you notched out the arms for the ladder, that would work. Actually a really good idea. Something I didn't think about.
Already sold my ladder... Dammitttt
Man now that I think about it more, you could literally hole saw tops and the bottoms of the arms to allow clearance on the legs of the ladder. Freaking genius.

I have the front of my T4R the way I want it, but the rear still needs a little upgrading.
Beautifully done - now I have bumper envy.
Question though, can you remove the swing out arms "easily" when you are using the T4R in a daily driver situation? I have been looking at this bumper, but after I installed cabinets in my garage, my T4R would not fit with the spare coming off the bumper.

Wouldn't be hard at all. The arms are held on with a giant nut that I used a 1-1/2 Socket to tighten. Just lift and its off. You would have to re-install the bearings and seals each time, which isn't hard, they aren't press fitted. They snug up when you tighten the nut.
Good looking rig, I started with the rear, working my way to the front. Next up. Winch.

@ onepremiere
- We appreciate all the photos and feedback, thanks for sharing your experiences
In regards to the compatibility with aftermarket ladders like the gobi, it will work with our single arm bumper variant. For the dual swings, they don't quite fit with the amount of space afforded with the design of the arms. However, we do offer a ladder product specifically designed to work with the dual swing arms that is easily detachable when not needed.
We will certainly revisit the install guide to see if things can be expanded on or further refined. Thanks for the feedback on that!
If anyone has any questions or would like to reach out to us, please don't hesitate to email us at [email protected] or by phone at 877.366.3099
Cheers!

DROOOOOOL. I have been eyeing the Expedition One bumper since they released. I love the latch system on these. Definitely will be going with an E1 Bumper when I can afford it. They are quite pricey once fully spec'd out.

Clearly you haven't seen the EX1 ladder. its incorporated into the driver side swing arm and looks bad ass. no need for upgraded gas struts that still feel heavy with a hitch ladder.

It it wasn't so dam expensive, I'd own one already.

Don’t go pulling the swingarms off much. Not only will you need a new nylock nut every time, but it’s really not a good idea to have to redjust tje positioning every time. Pull the spare off and stuff it underneath until you need it.

Speaking as a Gobi owner with the upgraded gas stuts, I I closed the tail gate as one would do with out the ladder, Eventually the rear window would shatter. they struts do not adequately support the extra weight.
what was your friends gripe anyway? at over 2K, it should be flawless

Thats odd to find a white steel bumper that actually looks good. IMO they have the best looking bumper out.

Great write up and pics
Just received my bumper today, going to knock out the install tomorrow. I can attest to your statements of attetion to detail by E1. The packaging for shipping alone was exemplary, blocked and braced with spray foam, palletized, the whole nine. Was hoping you had purchased and installed the camera bracket extension as well so I could see if you had an insights so I don't jack it up. Thanks again for sharing.

rear bumper update
Great product. But I do one have to say trying to run two nato can holders, and the pull pal/ hi lift mount all at the same time seems unlikely due to space on the swing arms.

Man I love this bumper, but 250 pounds is pretty dang high for my daily driver... If they released this in aluminum it would be perfect, especially considering it retains the factory tow hitch for strength. I'd be allll over that.
