I take this a reminder to make sure your spacers are properly installed. Spacers are not inherently dangerous in my opinion and experience. There are many vehicles heavier than the 4runner using them safely. If you're into engineering (or want to be) there's a decent paper analyzing them here: https://www.ijert.org/download/16292...f-wheel-spacer If you don't want to dig through the math, read the intro and conclusion.
There are a few other bolts holding your wheels on too. Tire rotations are a good time to check them all, at least visually if not with a wrench. (those two 19mm bolts at the bottom of the knuckle, the four hub/bearing bolts, UCA, sway bar links, etc.
When you allow someone to work on your car, you really are putting your life in their hands to some extent. Do you use the cheapest mechanic you can find, or get to know/trust somebody? I'm not sure whether any state inspections do a decent job checking these things either. The ones I've had experience with seemed more focused on collecting the fee than vehicle safety.
Anyway, off soapbox. Happy Tuesday.

At the end of the day, is all this worth it for just looks?

LoL. Pretty much every aftermarket accessory you put on your vehicle has that imprinted on it somewhere.

In order to stick with my oem Trail wheels I needed a tad more space between the tire sidewall and JBA UCAs when going to 285/70s. I'm not a fan of the bling bling aftermarket wheels and prefer stock wheels on my Toyotas.
It always seems like when one of these spacer failure threads pops up that a 3rd party has installed the wheel and or spacer. I personally haven't seen one yet where the OP could verify the proper torque was used and there was a failure.

Just out of curiosity, for those blaming the impact gun for stretching the lugs......what kind of air pressure are you running on the compressor?
200+ lbs? with the zipgun set to max or what?

As for someone who says find the right rims...
Tell me where I can find 17x8.5 and 17x9's with a -40 offset rims that don't look like they come from the douche bag catalog.
I only know of one set of rims that I would buy (SCS f5 -38) that doesn't scream douchebag, and good luck trying to get a set b4 they sell out.
Sometimes, you have to run spacers........
I just tell people if you run spacers do your due diligence, and be careful.
I"ve run spacers on all my vehicles, from stances 350z's to tundras, and now my 4runner.

correct. wheel choices in 17's are terrible for width and backspacing. sometimes spacers are the only option.

They seem to be in stock right now...
Now if they only came in brushed copper or gold and I'd switch.
I'm not opposed to gloss white either.

The Trail/TRD Off Road rims offset definitely don't scream douche. But they do scream "please push me out further". They make the vehicle look like it has narrow shoulders.

I got the best offset available for the rims I had to have and still had the ''Ford Exploder'' look going on....where the rear track is silly-narrow looking. Spacers fixed it and the track width adds stability! http://www.toyota-4runner.org/attach...1&d=1536702653 Nobody will touch the truck but Me and I'm very methodical and picky so I don't sweat the spacers if installed properly.

True but this thread is one of several I've seen with failed wheel spacers, and that's guys who actually posted it online. I can't say the same about suspension and/or wheels breaking off. It's probably less than 1% of the guys running them but to me it's something I won't chance because not only are you endangering you & your passengers but others on the road. I went with a wider offset wheel (SCS) because of the possible spacer issues. Also, I work with a large off-road shop here in Hawaii and the majority of guys replacing wheel bearings and ball joints are from running spacers as it adds additional wear to those components. Just my .02

I agree but I will admit investing roughly $300 for studs isn't something many like to do. Especially after investing into the Spydertrax which comes with studs that you would think might be similar quality to ARP

True, but it comes out almost the same if proper wheels were chosen in the first place.
