I recently traded in my 2016 Trail for a 2018 TRD Off-road. Like most of you here, I’ve never been happy with the headlights. Before the 4Runners, I had a Scion XB that I installed an HID kit for better output. It definitely increased the light, but I felt it was too bright. Since the purchase of my first T4R I had been searching for LED bulbs for my low beams. Everything LED I read about wouldn’t fit or the light pattern looked horrible with no throw. A week ago I ran across the new Morimoto 2Stroke 2.0 LED headlights. They really reduced the size of the bulb fan and driver, and are using Phillips LEDs. It was the best option I’ve seen so far, so I placed my order.
Install was simple. Plug and play, but needed the 9006 to H11 adapters that shipped with the kit. The bulbs fit right in with no mods needed, just needed a little extra force as the gasket is a little thicker than stock. I was also able to get all the wires in the behind the dust caps, so no drilling necessary. I will pay close attention to them over the next couple days, as it seems like it could get hot in there and don’t want any wires melting.
The cooling fans have a slight hum, but you can only hear them if the engine is off. Light output looks like a decent improvement over stock and the color is a bright white. I don’t have a before and after picture for comparison.
I’m happy with them so far. We’ll see how they hold up. Here’s some pics.
