I guess some of us, uh, grip tighter than others... but body chemistry / sweat and dirt / oils / residues left on the hands and transferred to the wheel leather actually play a huge role here too. I've seen guitarist's sweat eat through metal bridges where they rest their hands when playing, it's kinda insane.

Yeah, nothing wrong with a firm grip, just need to make sure ya clean up after.
