Yeah, the original link has the software for windows 10 64bit.

Idk where this new group buy came from but doesn’t appear to be very 64bit friendly.

once i have the cable in hand, i will start testing it to see what it will take to get it working on a 64bit os. if it becomes too much of a mess, i will then try creating a VM and work from there. a last-ditch effort will be reimaging an old laptop with win7 32bit.

i just paid the invoice and expect to have the 10 units by wednesday of next week.

I don’t understand.
Isn’t the one the OP posted already known to work?

This thread is all over the place. The original link will work for you. Who knows about this random half price one that someone decided to source. I mean the whole point of this thread was to keep people from buying random cables that don’t work... lol

I suspect the issue is tracking down a 64-bit driver, rather than anything inherent to the cables. Nearly all USB -> serial cables use one of a handful of chips, so the variation is how the chip identifies iteslf to Windows, and what drivers come with the cable. If we can get a cheap cable that either comes with a 64 bit driver or has one available elsewhere, that would definitely be a valuable resource for the forum.

@eHaze I'm happy to help out with the driver side of things if you need.

If a VM solution is readily available (which it is), why go through all the hassle of 32 bit/64 bit OS's, software installs/cracks (lets be honest, this isn't going to be officially registered with Toyota), and drivers, etc??

My VM solution, at least, hasn't been super stable. Running USB into a VM introduces some latency that some things aren't happy with (for example, I know of people bricking Motorola radios by running the programming software in a VM). I think the Toyota OBD interface is a little bit more error-proof, but I definitely notice that it's slow and sometimes fails for no apparent reason. Plus, if we can get an easy-to-install package together it's arguably less work for a new person than installing a VM product.

VM solution is running the same bootleg software, you’re just pretending it’s win xp so u can use the xp drivers. Honestly, VM is the complicated solution. Atleast it was until this random cable came into the picture.

@eHaze @IanB ,

This is a great question I think, because the buyer's should know (before hand) exactly what to expect from this product... incidentally, my laptop is an HP Notebook w/WIN-10 (64 bit) OS (and flawless operation). Can these cables/software run 'Compatibly' on my windows 10-64 platform with NO VM? ...Thanks!

rig, cheers!

To all Tech-team members,

This is the 'Techstream Diagnostic & Coding' cable that I was sharing about on this 'Original' Group-Buy thread:

This is the one that works with WIN-10 (32-64 bit) O.S. NO VM's necessary ...actual photo of my system loading above^^^^!

T/S MVCI Cable J2534: works w/ any windows OS (32-64 bit) <<<<"Please see the product details in the ebay link"<<<. Just scroll down below the pictures on the front page to view product details"

I'm hoping that this software (in the NEW Group-Buy) is, and does what mine is every bit capable of(?)! I'm sure that Mr @eHaze will be sure to do the right thing and see that these ARE in fact, the same cables/software with the same capabilities; as was explained to me the other night about this product for half the price!

rig, cheers!

As posted previously, the VM I am running uses Windows 7 has the guest OS, not Win XP

Windows 7 32bit or XP is besides the point, it’s a lot of extra baggage and potential issues. Just get the right driver from the start and you won’t have any issues running on windows 64bit. Ditching the VM crap was the whole point of the OPs post.

Hi Cndnmax,

Your exactly right! The reason that I was willing to pay a little more for my 'Techstream Diagnostics & Coding Cable and Software was because I already have three (X-Horse) j2534 mini VCM's that Will Not Work... even using the VM e.g., virtual XP Mode (32 bit) platform.

Just make 'ABSOLUTELY SURE' before you purchase this j2534 cable kit, that it will work w/o a VM... that was my whole purpose of trying to start the 'Group-Buy' so we could Wisely spend a few bucks and ditch that slow old Dell 32 bit (unsupported) XP OS laptop, and begin to use our late model 64 bit machines in it's place! ...still routing for you eHaze, 'Best to you all',

rig
