No, there is no disadvantage. It makes your vehicle drive like every car did before 2003, when they ALL HAD a metal cable going to the throttle body. Newer isn't always better, and this is the perfect argument for that theory. It's freaking amazing. ALso, if you want to turn it off, you can in 1 second, but you will not want to.

This thing sounds cool and I want one ! Only one thing I wonder about. I live in a beach community with lots of pedestrians, making going through "downtown" fraught with the peril of hitting some idiot who darts out into the street without looking.

I think maybe the “Red 9” comment was sarcastic. In Red 9 you will run the engine up to redline in each gear. I don’t think this is the type of vehicle for that.
I like green 5-7. You will learn how the pedal reacts with the sprint booster. In green 5-7, I can just feather the pedal and still just apply a little bit of power to keep rpms low when I’m not looking for brisk acceleration. But, when I need to accelerate, I get instant response and instant downshifts.
If you’re in a crowded situation like you describe, and you’re concerned, you just turn it off. I don’t have mine turned on any more than you would drive a performance car in sport mode.

Got it, thanks for that great reply ! I forgot it can be turned off. I was thinking to just set it then coil up the wire and store it in the glove compartment. But if one wants to turn it off like that, yes it should be accessible, for sure !

I have mine set at Race +2 at the moment. The pedal is definitely more responsive than when I had it set at Sport +3. I changed it to race mode over the weekend to see how it would perform on the highway. So far I like it better than sport mode. You can always turn off the unit if you are in a downtown type of environment where throttle lag maybe a good thing.

Yes, some do that. Set it and forget it, and if you don’t want to see the little cool display, unplug, coil up and keep in glove compartment. It doesn’t need to stay plugged in.

4Runner and Tacoma Sprint Boosters are our most popular products.
We've had great reviews and have even seen great things when it comes to off-road.
Here's a Toyota page with more details.

I talked with Jason today and ordered the Sprint Booster. Cant wait for it to get here. If you havent dealt with Jason I highly recommend you give him a call. He will steer you in the right direction and heck he even talked pricing for parts for our Tundra. Give him a call, you will not regret it !

Pedal Commander
I put the Pedal Commander on my 2016 SR5. It performed very well. I had it on for awhile and then I got a check engine light. I check it and got a p2121 code. I reset it and it went out but came back on. P2121 is a accelerator pedal position, or APP, sensor error code. So I took the Pedal Commander off and reset it. No more code. The Pedal Commander worked but I don't want the code.

I ordered a Pedal Commander per a few friends who said its the first thing you should get when you buy a 4R. So I did. I had it on the 4R for three weeks. It performed exactly as advertised. I have zero complaints. Then I went off road and I hated it. While the throttle is great on the street having more pep, I didn't care for the loss of control off road. To each his own of course.
I took the PC off and was worried I would hate the street feeling. For the first couple of days the 4R did feel sluggish. Then, it felt normal to me again and I returned the PC.
When I look back at the experience, I can see why these are popular gadgets but I cannot see myself doing something like this again for three reasons.
1. Poor off road performance in my opinion. Even on lowest settings.
2. This should be under $100. Nearly $300 is way overpriced IMO.
3. If you go to the wrong dealer for service they could give you a hassle. Sure you can remove the PC easily but I really don't want to do that.
As I said, I believe the product performed exactly as advertised and PC gave me no issues with returning it. It just wasn't for me. I don't find the 4R sluggish at all. It only seems like I did after listening to what other people told me. Something to think about. YMMV
Cheers

Why didn’t you just turn it off when you went off road?? It’s not something you need to use all the time. I wouldn’t use it in snowy conditions or off road, but on road, especially the highway, it’s great.
