Qi Wireless Charging Phone Mount for iPhone XS Max

I went searching for a charging mount for my iPhone XS Max. My favorite vendor of these types of mounts is Proclip, but they don’t have anything yet. I could not find any other options that I liked, but I came up with a solution I am happy with.

I found this cool ‘automated’ mount on Amazon;

https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Char...70_&dpSrc=srch

One handed operation, since it opens automatically via a motion sensor. Cool!

Works for iPhone X/XS Max/XR/8 Plus/Galaxy S9/S9+/S8+ LG G6/V30. Fits my iPhone XS Max perfectly. Here is a Youtube that shows it in action;

https://youtu.be/Mne34WJg0Hs

(The audio announcement you hear is my Blackvue dashcam)

This mount came with a vent clip style mount, which I did not use. I combined the following;
- my existing Proclip base mount
- an extension plate (Proclip) which already had
- an angle block (also from Proclip) just to angle the phone towards me a little bit
- and a small piece of sheet metal

I drilled holes in the right places on the sheet metal to mount to my existing base, and then drilled a 7/8 inch hole to accommodate the Insten mount. The 7/8 hole needs just a small amount of filing.

On the back of the Insten mount there is a round threaded post, and a plastic nut is on the vent mount. That is how I attached the mount to the sheet metal. See pics for more detail. The nut is held to the vent clip that you need to cut off. Cut where the red arrows are in the last pic. Keep the nut, throw the vent mount away.

Front view of the two parts;

Back view showing the threaded post;

View of vent mount - cut off the ball at arrows in order to free up the nut;

I'm happy with the result, and love the cool factor. The holder grips the phone firmly, but if you shut off the car, you can still remove the phone from the mount without power.

Final installation views;

Enjoy!

I need to find a charging pad to use on my RAM x grip, I wonder if I can use this and take it apart and place it over the center of the x grip

I got this one because it's the thinnest I could find and used double sided tape to add it. Nice and clean.

Very cool and well done. I’m a ProClip fan as well and also got tired of waiting. I end up ordering their Universal large adjustable and it fits my iPhone Max in various cases well. Not wireless, but works.

I think you'd be better served by a simpler charing pad for that. This one might not be easy to pull apart and keep the pad intact...

I have the iPhone XS Max and it's heavy enough with a case that it slides off any magnetic mount I've tried, including the Scosche mount that uses rare earth magnets.

I like where you mounted yours - I don't want to block visibility or access to any dash displays or buttons or the vents... yours accomplishes this. There just doesn't seem to be any good place really to mount that big ass phone.

Since I'm not the one resurrecting this, my setup looks identical but with the Expedition Essentials T4RPAM.

You know I had to position my charge pad way up so that it would be in the area of the coils. If mine were placed that low it wouldn't charge due to the positioning of the pad

Nice! That's on my list to get, I just couldn't justify drilling a brand new dash till I put a few thousand miles on the truck.

It's the adhesive ball mount. Let it sit a few days before putting any stress on it and it won't ever budge. Had a hell of a time getting it off my 05 before I updated to the 18.
