That's actually step 5 of the instructions.

Dobinsons 5th Gen 4Runner Snorkel

Great. Well, if it makes a difference then definitely post up. I had so many alignment issues that I doubt it would have mattered and here’s why; the spacing between the mounting bolts is what was off. If I got one side of the snorkel to line up and fit into the holes, the opposite side wouldn’t. I could align the right or left side and the first few would align but the opposite side was off a good margin. Again, I taped this template down perfectly so it tells me it’s good for ball parking but that’s it. Further, I feel like my snorkel was out of fitment spec because even when I had everything aligned and ultimately mounted, my snorkel protruded so far away from the body that I couldn’t fit my upper most bolt. My wife, although she’s all of 110 lbs, couldn’t lean into the snorkel enough to get it to flex while I tried to thread the washed and nut. I had to rivet the A-Post and secure that down (which also has two holes that didn’t align properly with the bracket)then try to unthread the bolt enough to get the washer and nut onto it.
The bottom line is MY snorkel probably shouldn’t have passed the QC test. I got it to work but with a lot of modifying. For a part specifically designed for my rig, that’s not acceptable in my opinion. Dobinsons seems like a reputable company. I believe I may have received a less than perfect part.
Now that it’s on, it feels super secure and I have confidence in it moving forward.

It made a huge difference, the template was ~1/4" off on 4 or so of the screws. I adjusted the holes and bolted the thing on. Took me a couple hours taking my time, nothing hard, but definitely don't skip step 5. For I think it could be better worded in the directions.
"Check the template against the snorkel body. (INSERT: ADJUST THE TEMPLATE DRILL HOLES AS REQUIRED TO LINE UP THE TEMPLATE AND THE SNORKEL,) Align the template on the vehicle as seen in picture on page 2, and tape it down ensuring it is aligned with the top and rear guard edges and then pulled tight to the outer guard edge. and double check again."

Great to hear. I definitely skipped that step after watching some videos on YouTube. It would have alleviated some of the initial frustration but it still doesn’t account for my issue with the main hole (had to widen and elongate it more) as well as my other upper bolt issue.
Either way, good advice for those looking to do the install. It would have shortened my time a little bit for sure!
Pics required!!!
And I should say, I’ve had 5 people wave/thumbs up on the road and another 4 say something about how nice my truck is with the snorkel on. It draws attention to my rig that it wasn’t getting before which is fine with me. A snorkel is such a statement about your off road intentions that I think most overlook without it. It’s drastic and I’m really feeling it.

Looks great! And yeah, that’s pretty much the way my holes played out. I shouldn’t have skipped step 5. That’s my bad but I expected a product allegedly designed for our specific application to be spot on. I guess I was foolish for believing that.
Seeing that your holes lined up exactly as mine, maybe Dobinsons should adjust their template since it looks like they’re consistently off in the exact same way...unless this template isn’t meant for the 4R.
Either way, thanks for sharing. Step 5 is vital for saving some time.

Few pics of my first time out with the snorkel. I hit some water crossings that would have had me nervous before. Now I’m care free and loving it.

Will the TRD CAI work with this snorkel or will I have to revert back to stock? I skimmed the thread but saw no mention throughout.
