rad rubber design replacement engine splash guards
I'd like to share my experience with a very worthwhile product.
My toyota engine splash guards are brittle, stretched, sagging, and the fasteners are complete junk. I've been repairing these garbage fasteners to get rid of the loud rattle on a continuous basis since 2015.
It was my intention to create a PDF template of the splash guards, and make some new ones myself out of a thicker, better material than the pseudo cardboard/rubber trash that came stock. As part of this plan, I decided to get replacements and copy them.
Well-- what I quickly discovered is that suitable material isn't cheap. And my free time is worth more now than ever before. So I decided to check out Rad Rubber Design's offering.
They offer a few options for the 4runner, including an option if you have a body lift- which is pretty sweet. I got the KDSS version, with MUCH improved fasteners for $49.50.
I've got to say, I don't think I could source the materials, the excellent fasteners, and the value of my time for this price. This is the material and the fasteners that toyota should have used. I am extremely pleased with these. These are priced exactly right in my opinion, if not on the lower end of the spectrum. I have no desire to try to make my own when these are available at this price, with much improved fasteners.
So no more rattling/missing clips. No more sagging torn engine splash guards. These are up to the task of a nasty salty winter, and I'm looking forward to wheeling with them in the spring. Great product, great price, and the owner replied to a shipping request I had within minutes. Two thumbs up.
I have no affiliation, just a happy customer from Canada.

I will update installed pictures once I get to the carwash. It's a salty mess today.

Thanks for sharing, definitely something to keep in mind. I was wondering if there is also something to replace the plastic guard under the radiator. My rci skid leaves a massive gap, I reattached the stock guard but it is not ideal

Received mine from Eddie at Rad Rubber last week. Installed in about 30 min. Night and day difference in material. Plus he had a set cut for my body lift in stock. Great product

Right on-- The shipping was the big kicker for me. But that's part of living in Canuckstan
The splashguards have been the same across the board for the 5th gens. Actually, even before then.

RCI makes a filler plate to fill that gap. It's $60 I think.

Thank you again for posting this. Just installed mine a couple weeks ago. Great quality and fits perfect. For $50 you can’t go wrong.

I just picked up a set of these based on some of the reports on this site. I found out that if you have King shocks (and possibly other brands), the install may not be as easy. With the Kings, the remove reservoirs mount in a way that blocks access to one of the fasteners and so you have to remove the reservoir and mount, which is attached to the sway bar.
So my advise, is if you are going to be doing King shocks anyways, just buy these and put them on at the same time so you don't have to go back and drop the reservoir mount to do it later.
