It's a slippery slope for sure but I think once you commit to a rear bumper you're basically on a full build whether you'd like to admit it or not. I just recently put a 4x4 Labs rear bumper on mine and MPG and daily driving aspect were impacted a lot. Was averaging about 17-18 MPG previously on 275's and now with the 4x4 Labs bumper I'm getting anywhere from 14-15 MPG, everything the same except the bumper. It just takes a little effort from the 4R to move all that weight hanging off the rear. The 4x4 Labs bumper is a freaking beast, not sure what it weighs exactly and I'm sure it weighs more than the LFD but it also requires cutting part of the rear cross-member so I don't think the added weight differential is all too different. I'm only running 32"s right now but likely going with a 34" and a re-gear will be necessary. I'll probably be averaging anywhere from 13-15 mpg when it's all said and done. I don't know, I feel like with certain upgrades and a rear bumper falls into that category that you're kind of past the point of the 4Runner being a reasonable daily driver. That being said even when it's built out fully it's still not too bad as a DD. You could spec and build out a LC200 and get 10-11 mpg

Out of curiosity how much does the LFD bumper weigh?

About 230 before the accessories get added on. I average around 16 mpgs around town, 17-18 on the highway. Besides the 255/75s, I run the TRD cold air intakes also, not sure how much those help but I think they do make a difference.

Hmmm... I may have to do that.

Yeah... it still has to be a daily driver. I think intake is next on the list of "things I should spend money on but am going to anyway".

You just need to source longer bolts for the grip pieces. I had my fat cats which have the same style feet as those on my Touareg that had factory crossbars which were about 1.5" thick and they worked.
Edit: I tested it out. Should be fine although I think there are better solutions.
First image is how the clamps would work with longer bolts.
Second images is the beginnings of me figuring out how to mount it directly to the rack with a Dremel and my sander.
I'm going to take it to RackAttack and see if they have any ideas.

Just got 15% off an aluminum crossbar and 2 accessory mounting plates for Rotopax. Thanks LFD. Maybe front hybrid bumper next year.

@ carlodonz
I just found these at Rack Attack
SmarT-Slot Kit 2
These work for the fat cat but you may find something similar for your racks.
Good luck

I am shocked at how well the roof rack was packaged. Very professional.
A couple questions:
for those that have installed their rack. What kind of silicon did you use at the factory holes?
Is there a place I should be a able to find those sliding T-nuts locally? Amazon won't have them to me until mid-december to mid-january.

I used black silicone permatex for the holes and on the bolts...
I've used these T-nuts with success; they aren't quite as perfectly fitting as the ones LFD includes with the accessory plates, but they get the job done and are in stock... I also use M8 allen-head bolts, similar to what is supplied with the accessory plates

Thank you
@ Anand
Do you know the size (width, I guess) of the slots on the crossbars?

I don't but I know that those M8 t-nuts wedge themselves in there to tighten pretty well
