Indicator light

Hello all. I am looking for advice on combining the rocker switch panel with indicator lights. I have built and installed the 5 switch build in the lower cubby and it works great. However, it is low enough and slightly angled downward, just enough that I do not notice if the I dindicator is illuminated or not. The other night I left rear facing lights on and did not notice until my son and I came back out from the TSO concert, to a dead battery, leaving us stranded outside the American Airlines Center in Dallas. A quick jump got us back on the road, but doesn’t address the issue that I missed the rocker switch illumination indicating that the switch is on.

So my thought...

Using antman’s sp8ball’s led accent light thread, https://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-g...tml#post774399
I’m going to build some led power indicators and place them in the flat area above the center vents by the clock.

What I need help with: where do I tie the indicators into the rocker switches so that the led will illuminate when the switch is on?

Hi mdjh51,

One thing I would be sure to do is to tie the switch panel into an "Intermittent" power source; one that operates off of the IGN-ON/OFF power supply...

I have ALL of my aftermarket lighting/stereo equipment triggered from the Center Console Cigarette Lighter to prevent a potentially, costly mistake as you've described. So when the truck is off, the electrical mods are ALL off!

rig, cheers!

Good idea. All of my accessories are run through an aux busman panel that I built (5 switch and 5 constant power). That panel is wired directly to battery. Any way to tie it into ignition switch? Maybe a solenoid or something that won’t require me to disassemble the power block?

No... no need to disassemble anything! Just connect your switches power supply directly into the center dash Cigarette lighter (Power Point socket) circuit;'Lt Green' wire and that's it!

You can GND the switches on any 'Clean' body surface (no paint) or just remove a dash bolt, connect your GND wire with a Ringed "Stack-on", and retighten the bolt! Now the electrical system is "Fail-safe"!

rig, Cheers
