No I hate mine too but wife likes them so they are still on. I took them once off for offroading but left them on the last time and did not damage them(as far as I can tell)

Was considering rock sliders but have held off because of weight and cost.

I always step over mine to get in and out of the truck. But they are great to protect against door dings which is the main reason I put them on. My 2018 ORP is a pavement queen though.

I am a fan of my nfab nerf bars. Super helpful when putting stuff on the roof or when drying/waxing the roof off. I am 6'6" and still use them.

I used the word probably. Most of those with SR5's aren't going to be on a trail where you would need sliders. I have driven most of the standard Colorado Jeep trails and some in New Mexico in a regular Toyota pickup stock height and never once needed sliders. I drove up Yankee Boy Basin near Ouray in my stock 4Runner last year and never even came close to needing sliders. Trails that would most likely require sliders would be trails that would also require lockers (and possibly crawl control or A-Trac) which an SR5 doesn't have.

Here's one. You telling me you're going to take your SR5 here?

I was on the fence when i bought my SR5 last year. Wife at the time said, "meh you don't need em". Fast forward to last month and she says the kids really need the step getting in and out. And she says this in front of her father who then proceeds to tell me to get a pair and he will pay for it as an xmas gift. Cool.

Ordered the trail editions and installed them a week ago. I think they look nice, but i will only ever use them to wash the roof or put stuff on the roof rack that I don't even have yet lol...I'm 5'11 and they aren't useful for me getting in and out because if I step on it I then have to duck down to get in. The only thing they do for me is make my pant leg dirty everytime i get out and brush against it. It is very helpful for my kids to get in and out though.

I got some Tyger nerf bars on my '15 Trail and have been happy with them due to a short wife and small kids. They look OK, just not as good as sliders.

The SR5 does have ATRAC. 4lo and ATRAC combined with good tires and Maxtrax/other recovery would probably do that entire video, yes.

I agree the rear locker would be nice to have, but having multi terrain and crawl control has never once interested me.

There's plenty of features that require sliders that hardly even require 4wd on the east coast, lol. Big rocks here.

Most of those with 4Runners in general won't be on a trail where you need sliders.

Your comment just seems a little elitist, considering that an SR5 is 95% the same truck as an ORP.

I would absolutely attempt this trail, I've been checking it out for a while. Quote below from an article regarding this trail on TrailsOffroad.com:

"Sliders are a great idea as well as a locker. None of these are absolutely needed with good spotting and a skilled driver. A Toyota 4Runner that appeared to be stock was witnessed tackling this trail with no apparent damage."

I personally think the running boards look good on my '16 Limited. I'm 6' tall and rarely need to use them. As someone said earlier, it's good to use to shake off snow from your shoes. It's pretty useful for when I take my parents out, since they're shorter and are getting older than they once were. Also, I had running boards on all my SUVs. I've adjusted to always having them. Personal opinion, of course.

My used TEP came with running boards. I don't hate them (actually I kind of like them) and the wife needs them. If the 4Runner were naked and I was starting from scratch, I'd probably pony up the extra cash for a set of sliders that had a nice tread for double duty.

I've been daydreaming about Green Lane Aluminum Side Steps / Rocker Guards, mostly because I'm not a hardcore explorer, tough guy, or a poser. They're not steel and won't offer the protection of steel, but steel is heavy. Aluminum would help keep the weight down and would provide a bit more protection than the OEM running boards. Aluminum, for me, might be a good compromise given the type of recreational driving I actually do. The main reason I haven't pulled the trigger is that the shipping for these particular Steps / Guards is pricey.

I also told myself I'd live with the vehicle for a year before modifying it. After six months, my resoluteness is wavering.
