No offense, but nerf bars and bull bars are the two most worthless/pointless mods you can do to a vehicle...and have the propensity to do significantly more harm than good. The first rock you hit off road, say goodbye to nerf bars...first tree or obstacle you encounter up front, pushes those bull bars right back to your front end.

Your comment just seems a little elitist, considering that an SR5 is 95% the same truck as an ORP.
I would absolutely attempt this trail, I've been checking it out for a while. Quote below from an article regarding this trail on TrailsOffroad.com:
"Sliders are a great idea as well as a locker. None of these are absolutely needed with good spotting and a skilled driver. A Toyota 4Runner that appeared to be stock was witnessed tackling this trail with no apparent damage."

When are you going to get sliders? Let us know when you do drive this and post a trip report.

4runr4eva, don't get offended. Everyone entitled to their opinion here. It is one of the Forum's perks. Once post is here you might get support or the opposite but ultimately it is up to you how you mod your truck and how you use it. Don't let things get to you. Even though Yellow Snow might be right in regards of serious off road usage he might not realize your priorities do not include that kind of off roading. I like how you have the exhaust outlets done. Nice Ride

I have seen some nice looking sr5 and other 4runners out there, with and without sliders. I have read some elitist comments lately. It's a shame and upsetting. I never thought this place would start to get that low. Yeah, maybe I haven't owned a 1st gen or rebuilt a 4th gen but that shouldn't matter. This, you can't take your truck here crap, is crap. Sorry, you win.

Naw dude, you need to have a dial that says whether you're in sand or snow to be able to use 4x4 or have vehicle armor.

Agreed...I wouldn’t have made it out of the Dave & Busters parking lot last week without utilizing “mall crawl” on my Terrain select.

Sounds like we have some little Marco's driving SR5's around here.

I've been daydreaming about Green Lane Aluminum Side Steps / Rocker Guards, mostly because I'm not a hardcore explorer, tough guy, or a poser. They're not steel and won't offer the protection of steel, but steel is heavy. Aluminum would help keep the weight down and would provide a bit more protection than the OEM running boards. Aluminum, for me, might be a good compromise given the type of recreational driving I actually do. The main reason I haven't pulled the trigger is that the shipping for these particular Steps / Guards is pricey.
I also told myself I'd live with the vehicle for a year before modifying it. After six months, my resoluteness is wavering.

I got these similar-looking aluminum steps off ebay for less than $200 shipped with one of the periodic coupons:
iArmor 6.5" Nerf Bars Square Tube Fit 10-18 Toyota 4Runner Trail Edition | eBay
The wife and I both like the unique look, they are super light and easy to install (and remove), and you can hear them deflecting a lot of debris from the tires when off the pavement. I doubt they would "armor" anything except offending car doors in the mall parking lot, but hey to each their own. And I do find them extremely useful when loading things on and off the roof.

No off roading here, 100% pavement queen, thought the step may be nice.

I've never liked them, but after two years of above average rain - and it was rainy here to start with - I think of them as big mud flaps.
I don't do rocks too often, and they don't get in the way on the beach.

This 2016 TEP w/KDSS is a big step up from the 1986 Subaru GL wagon I used on the Outer Banks beaches for 14 years. That thing would go anywhere in the sand on 185/70-13 tires. Dual range 5 speed, factory skid plate, 3 position manually adjustable rear shocks and armored exhaust. All factory, including the white spoke wheels. The front sub frame finally rusted apart.

They are. I find them useful, though I understand the aesthetic concerns.

I didn't read through the replies, so this may be repetitive. I'm in the camp that not everybody needs sliders. An running boards provide several functional benefits. A step to wash roof of the truck. A step for dogs, kids, wife, grandmother. Reduces wear on the seats if used to lift out of the seat instead of sliding off the seat. Sometimes blocks rocks thrown from front tires instead of hitting your paint. And for the money the '10-'13 trail style running boards look great and pretty seamless, next best thing to nothing or sliders. Don't hesitate unless you have a functional need for sliders. If you need pics of what I have to sway you, let me know. Link to what I have, but you can get cheaper if you shop or possibly even from your dealer:

Wow another elitist comment.
I bet you’re really fun to hang out with. 😂

My new-to-me Trail will likely never see a situation where sliders are needed. If it does, the Amp retractable running boards I intend to put on will be destroyed My 4Runner isn't going to be a pavement queen, but it probably won't go much further than forest service roads and the occasional ranch/logging road. I have the Amps on my slightly lifted Dodge 2500 4x4, and they are the schizz.
