Fairlead No Winch
Serious question here. I’ve been starting to notice more and more trucks out there with aftermarket bumpers with fairleads, but no noticeable winch. The first time I saw it, I thought the owner was just trying to look “cool” by adding his Factor55 fairlead. What is the purpose of this? Recently, I noticed a lot of people doing this. Am I missing something? I do have an actual winch mounted on my steel bumper so I’m not sure if this is becoming a trend or if there’s a winch out there with a hidden “hook”.

Fairlead No Winch
Probably just to fill the spot until a wench is installed. Maybe they think it looks bad without one

I think you know the answer to this. You can ask the same question for people who tack on 100+ lbs of metal to the nose of their truck and decide not to run a winch. Vanity is a powerful thing

It's the mall crawler build. Doesn't really hurt anyone, keeps all these fine offroad accessory suppliers in business.

I personally haven't seen it, but maybe they don't have a filler plate and they're saving up for a winch. I had to buy my set up in stages... but my sso bumper had the filler plate option.

I am one of those truck ricers....For a short time, I ran a Factor 55 fairlead, before unbolting my bumper, to get my winch installed........and I also have those damn amber marker lights, AKA "Raptor" lights....Haha.
"Truck Ricer"........I have to admit, that is pretty funny.

Where I live there aren't any trees to winch to. The ground is so hard you'd need dynamite to use a sand anchor.
But steel bumpers are good protection on the trail and in traffic.

Some just want the look, of an "off-roader" or wheeler maybe even the look of an Expedition rig, but have zero scratches and only "camp" out and campgrounds next to the prius pulling a popup camper lol. We generally call these people "posers" we see it all the time out here.
IMHO its your money, your rig so do what makes YOU happy. If you want the "look" go for it. If you want to scratch your rig up on the rocks and trees, go for it. If you want to go fast over the desert, go for it.
Bottom line is, we all will die so go out there and do what makes YOU happy, have fun, be safe.

More buyers the better, poser or otherwise. Increasing demand for products will get more companies with innovative ideas in the mix.
