I've had my 4Runner for about 4 months and after upgrading the shocks to Bilstein 5100's (set at 0.85) I decided to get a new set of wheels and tires.
I went with the XD 131 wheels (17x8, 0 offset) and 265/70/17 BFG AT KO2s. I had considered going with a bigger tire, but decided to stick with the stock size as I didn't want to have to worry about rubbing issues.
As the shop is installing the tires the tech tells me that the front wheels are going to rub because of the offset of the wheels. Shit.
I went ahead and had everything installed knowing that I have options. Now I'm looking for some perspectives. Do I trim or do I lift to solve the rubbing issue?
Personally, I would do the front fender liner mod(google the vid) and then take a razor blade to the front bumper edge sticking out toward the front of the tire. On stock size tires, thats where it is most likely to rub when going in reverse while turning the wheel in either direction. I performed these mods and no longer rub with 17×8.5 -10mm wheels on stock size tires(falken wildpeaks at3w).
First off, you are entering a rabbit hole that several of us in here have encountered. Wanted to go more aggressive without making the appropriate modifications. Do some research, trim/push forward your fenders, remove your mud flaps and you should be good. Eventually you will just pay the $200 for a BMC and run 285s like most people end up doing, as 265s are just too small and are restrictive off road.
The front of the front wheel wells. From what I have read there is an easy mod to move and trim the front fender liner.
I had the exact same problem with very similar similar setup. 265 KO2s on 0 offset wheels. The fix is to trim the bumper. Calling all k02 owners 265 vs 275 ?
BTW- I purposefully went with 265s for the same reason you did - no chance of rubbing. I was wrong.
