OP, Make the dealer fix that if they over torqued it. I should have. Instead I had a disabled 4Runner in my driveway for days while I removed the broken plastic housing in bits and pieces. It was a true worst case scenario.
I now have a metal housing, it is touched by only me, and I tighten it by hand only until the indicator lines up. HARD lesson learned.

EXACT same thing happened to me. I actually broke the oil filter wrench tool, went and got a better quality one, then broke the plastic housing while it broke loose. Luckily I was able to it off, it was just cracked.
Truck was stranded for a few days while I waited on the metal housing to arrive.

I just swapped over the little metal cartidge piece in the middle. You just bend the little metal prongs to be able to spin the inner piece and remove, with spring. Then swap over and bend back. Super easy and oil changes have been 10x easier since.

[QUOTE=DeadPool;3205105]Hey everybody
ya this is what happens . I would bring it back to dealership and show the pictures . then have them loosen the cap then torque it to 15ft lbs with a torque wrench .. why should you pay for the floor sweeper idiot mistakes ..
also have them fix that stripped bolt .

Have them fix, then never go back. What is tight? The center cap to gain access to the drain port or the whole housing.

I guess there is a reason why the 4Runner doesn't come with the easy screw on oil filter like most vehicles?

Sorry, but: 1) you take your car to the dealer, which implies limited experience, 2) this forum is filled with similar types with limited experience.
So I had to ask to get that issue out of the way.

The same thing happened to me at my local POS dealer. (stripped out skid plate bolts and busted off the metal tab on the plastic filter housing) Enough of that crap. I bought the RCI skidplate (best $300 I've ever spent) and I do all of my own service now.
Anyone know the OEM Toyota part # for the aluminum oil filter housing ?
NEVERMIND, I searched and learned that this is not made for our 4R's, (specifically) but many people changed out the center tube for it to work. I think that I'll just stay with the original plastic housing.

I just did a 5k oil change on my 2018, never did it before and found it only slightly more difficult than any other. I will bring it to the stealer for the free 10k just to get it logged for the warranty, but I will remove the skid plate myself. On the fence about just doing it myself when I get back from the dealer, so I know it's done right. I hate people working on my rides.

Glad to say I spoke with the service manager earlier and will be bringing in my truck Monday so they can address the missing body clips, the stripped bolt and the over torqued filter housing and will even let me watch them perform this.. he told me it's not the first time he's had this problem and they even just had a meeting about over tightening the filter housings. I will keep you guys posted.

I actually like the looks of the metal one compared to the plastic one

Yeah, I mean it's up under my skids plates so doesn't really matter, no one ever sees it but me. It is however very nice and easy to remove, clean, and snug up when doing oil changes with a peace of mind it won't crack, it's also an OEM Toyota part.
