Headlights off Without Opening Door
Does anyone know of a way to get the headlights to turn off WITHOUT opening the door? I know it seems like a non-issue, but it's something I'd like to hear other's input on.
I've got a '17 TRD ORP. I also have a laptop loaded up with Techstream (Toyota software to manipulate the ECU). I can change the amount of time the lights stay on after the vehicle is shut off and passengers exit, but there is not an option to simply make the lights turn off as soon as the truck is turned off.
One worry that I have is accidentally remote starting and not being around to open the door. This is especially easy for me since I have Compustar Drone Mobile and can start from my phone. I recently forgot that I swapped vehicles with my wife for the day and remote started it while she was at work (35 miles away). It sat there with the lights on for over an hour before she got back to the office to shut off the lights!
I reenacted this scenario tonight in the garage and timed it; the lights stayed on for two hours and fifteen minutes before I called it quits. Pretty sure they stay on til the battery is dead. I'm recharging my battery now........
Seems like there should be a fuse or relay that can be pulled, or SOMETHING??!! Any input is appreciated. BTW, I searched the threads high and low, didn't see an answer. If it's been discussed before please share a link.

And by " headlights", you're referring to the DRL's...? I have to use the switch/dial on the left stalk to turn the headlights OFF or ON.
I haven't tried it but if the 4Runner is like other vehicles, the lights won't come on when the vehicle starts if the E-brake is applied...
Maybe get in the habit of applying the parking brake every time you get out.

Many 4Runners are also equipped with a headlight control sensor - which adds the 'AUTO' position to the switch/dial on the left stalk.

Thanks for the input. That does work from the key, but it doesn't work from the app (say I was 30 or 3000 miles away).

Not many. Limited has auto, but most do not.

So, little update:
I recently installed Xenon Depot Xtreme LED low beams, and a side effect was disabling the DRL when the stick is switched all the way to "off." Previously, when remote start was ended the DRLs would stay on indefinitely, if the stick was "off." Now, since the Xenons seem to disable the DRLs, the lights do turn completely off after remote start has been ended.
However, if I accidentally leave my low beams on, the lights will stay on until the battery is dead. This is the scenario I would like to hear people's input on.

The Compustar can be wired to trigger the door pin on shut down. Depending on which Compustar, it's most likely Orange wire rearm output to the drivers door pin which is red. It will pulse this wire briefly wit ha ground trigger tricking the vehicle into thinking the door opened then closed.

As I stated in the open, mine is a 2017 TRD off-road premium. It does not have auto headlights.

Thanks - I would have lost that bet. Just checked Toyota website and auto headlights is indeed only available on PRO and Limited models. Wouldn't have expected that.

Got any details on this? Mine is a CM 7200. It was shipped to me programmed and I just soldered the wires in.
