Then I asked if the console and dash really had to come out and he said "yes". I mentioned my concerns about my custom sound installation, rattles, etc., and he said "absolutely no problem; we've never had one come back".
My regular oil change, inspection, tire rotation, etc. is all due in May so I'm scheduling everything together. I'll post here when it's finished...

Finally got around to calling but the dealer is saying that there has been a nationwide back order and doesn't know yet when they will be receiving the parts needed.

Just an update to my earlier posts - I dropped off the 2011 this morning for the airbag recall and state inspection/oil change/45k service. All service work was completed by noon. I asked the service manager if they removed the dash and he indicated they didn't completely remove it but did have to "lift it". Cosmetically, all looks O.K. except for a 3/8" scratch on the fan control trim, but it's surrounded by other scuffs/scratches my kids have left, so I'm not going to worry about it. All of my custom wiring for the stereo/video is intact and everything appears to function as expected, but of course I've only driven it a few miles. I did notice the passenger A pillar trim wasn't replaced, or they carefully replicated the scuff marks that were on the original trim piece.

Passenger air bag recall-Chicago North suburbs

Need the recall done. Anyone have good/bad regarding north suburban dealers. Do not trust dealerships.

Thanks in advance.

Done by Bredeman in Park Ridge Il. Dropped off at 1600 for recall and oil change. They called at 2045 and even came to pick me up. Lots of fretting, no reason. Looks just like when I dropped it off.

Although I received my Safety Recall Campaign notice from Toyota Canada back in February, I waited for a convenient time for me to bring my 2011 Limited into my local dealership for the airbag replacement. I also figured not going in early would reduce the "guinea pig" or "lab rat" effect that might happen with the first few removal/replacement procedures at my dealership.

I was also a little wary of getting this recall done, having read the many posts about some sloppy workmanship being done at isolated (mainly U.S.) dealerships.

The last recall notice that I received was for my 2003 Limited (the infamous "shave-the-brake-pedal" driver's floor mat fiasco), which I declined.

I had called last week to make an appointment for the recall work, and this morning the work was completed. Before handing over my 4Runner, I chatted briefly with the technician who was doing the work to confirm what he was going to be removing to get to the airbag assembly. The glovebox, the dashboard gets moved slightly, and the radio/stereo gets loosened to get at the airbag.

Total actual time was a shade over 2 hours (just a shade!) between drop-off for appointment and call back saying work was completed. Invoice has 3 hours recorded.

An inspection of the dashboard/glovebox area afterwards, and I can't even tell work has been done in the area. No scratches, no rattles, everything lines up as before.

All in all, very pleased by this recall work done at North Bay Toyota.

DC area dealer for airbag recall

Well, I waited until January 2020 to get the passenger airbag recall done on my 16 TRD Pro, hoping that the dealer techs would have had enough practice by now to do it right.

The job took about 2.5 hours. There was one minor hiccup. When I got the 4Runner back, there was a little round plastic piece about the diameter of a nickel, rolling around the door pocket - sort of looked like a sensor cover or ventilation hole plug. I went right back to the dealership, and as I was showing it to the service rep, a technician who happened to be walking by said he knew exactly where it goes. He took it and snapped it into a hole in the passenger wheel well trim. Otherwise, no squeaks or rattles, no obvious scratches, no issues on my one hour drive home.

Jack Taylor Toyota in Alexandria, VA.

I had called other dealerships in the DC area and Jack Taylor was the only one who didn't feed me the nonsense about taking the entire dash apart over an entire day. Service rep Manny told me straight how long it would take and what was involved.

They had to remove the wheel well area to get to your airbag? I'm preparing to have this recall done and reading a lot of conflicting information about dash removal, radio removal, glove box removal, etc. and your post made me wonder what all is involved now.

I parsed your quote... (Little off topic here)

I have an '02 Limited that went in for warranty work for paint.
The hood was bubbling/rusting.

When I got the truck back, the power antenna was MISSING.
There was a cigarette burn in the front bumper.
And the steering was so bad, you can turn the wheel from 12 to 9 and 12 to 3 and still go straight.
They said that was normal. Told them "we are going for a ride".
On that ride, I asked the guy if he would let me pick his kids up in this vehicle knowing what I just showed him.
The basically replaced the whole front rack...

All for painting the hood.

Ever since then, my Toyota's only see the dealer for recall work if I deem it to be critical.
They can keep their "free" oil changes too as my time is not worth the wait.
I do it myself.
