5th Gen Fuel Tank Capacity Q answered
Ok, I ran the test:
1. I drove the tank on my 2016 TRDP to empty; (I know I know)
2. I poured in 1 gallon of fuel;
3. I drove 1.3 miles to the nearest fuel station; &
4. I filled the tank until fuel poured out the top & the pump read 24.003 gallons
Conclusion: A 2016 T4R holds almost precisely 25 gallons.
Have a nice day...

My 2014 seems to only take like 20 gallons when I fill up at dang near empty (miles left being under 5).

Correction:
Fuel tank + fuel filler hose + evap (RIP) capacity = 25 gallons

Does anybody know how the fuel capacity is reported through the ECU/OBDII port by the sending unit? The reason I'm asking is that I got a Maestro RR connected to the OBD port and you have to specify a tank capacity before it starts showing how full the tank is. Comparing it to the cluster gauge the values are a bit different when the tank is set to 23 gal.

For oil, the 5th Gen owners manual states:
Oil capacity
(Drain and refill reference*)
With filter
6.6 qt. (6.2 L, 5.5 Imp. qt.)
Without filter
6.0 qt. (5.7 L, 5.0 Imp. qt.)
But...is this really the case? To verify, I'm going to drain the engine oil(remove oil pan drain plug). Once it has drained, I will drive approx. 4-5 miles with the drain plug removed in order to clear out all residual oil from the system.
After doing this, I will install exactly 6.6 qts. of new oil - that's 6 qts. and 19.2 oz. of oil and a new oil filter 04152-YZZA5
I will then start the vehicle to circulate the oil through the system, filling the new oil filter. The engine will then be shutoff and left to sit for several hours. Following this, I will remove the dipstick to check oil level. The oil level should be on the full mark - exactly. If not I will contact Toyota Customer Service and suggest they modify the "with filter" qty.

If you really want to make sure it's cleared out, you need to run a garden hose into crankcase for about a half hour with the drain plug open.

That only helps if the water is coming straight out of the hot water heater.

If you're referring to the "Cruising Range" indicator, they left a lot of cushion on it. I believe when that hits 0, you still should have about 3 gallons of gas left.
Based on my fill up experiences (to the first click on a pump only), the light comes on around 4 gallons left (19 fill up) and the read out hits 0 with around 3 gallons left (20 fill up).
I assume this is because there's a bunch of people out there who refuses to fill up until the last second and will drive it until they're out of gas if it actually ran out at 0.
