Has anyone on here successfully built a lithium setup? I considered doing it myself and it seemed ideal but gave up once I found out how complicated the charging would become. A Li house battery would be amazing!

Also, if it's helpful here is my dual battery setup spec sheet. Where I outlined all the components and cable types needed to build an entire setup: Dual Battery Setup (5th Gen Toyota 4runner) - Google Docs

not that complicated, just get a DC-DC charger that supports LiFePO4

I have... and that's what I am building.

I am using a DC-DC to charge off the main system. Fridge, Viair compressors, lighting, are all native 24v DC anyways and all run more efficient too.

Here is a proof of concept video I made, running a ARB fridge off 18650 batteries.

YouTube

I can scale this battery bank as large as I need it to go, its modular. Looks more complicated than it needs to be due to the test equipment, but its just a stack of cells on a custom printed PCB.

For items that require 12v, I have another step down DC-DC to provide 30 amps of stable 13.8v output.

I was going to build this into a base the fridge sits on, but its going to be a part of my drawer system. Small, high capacity, and very stealthy. Most wont even know its there.

it doesn't need to be that involved though, he can buy a LiFePO4 battery off the shelf, a DC-DC LiFePO4 battery charger off the shelf, and go to town

Also correct... LiFePO4 in 4S configuration is pretty much a drop in compatible automotive 12v voltages.

It’s less work, more compatible, the noteworthy difference between LiFePO4 and Li-ion is you generally get better power density, lower cost, and more available options with Li-ion.

LiFePO4 cost more, but it also tends to handle cycle abuse better, and often times can handle more cycles too. Its also generally considered a “safer chemistry”

If I was going to build a car battery pack, I would use large format prismatic cells like this if going LiFePO4.

How many amp-hours is the LiFePO4 battery you want to charge? e.g. if around 200Ah, then wiring two of the DC to DC chargers in parallel could bring you up to somewhere near the optimal charging amperage of the LiFePO4 battery, but you might then have to limit the continuous charging time off the Toyota OEM alternator to say 20 minutes at a time, to avoid overheating it.
