iPad mounting options?

What do you guys use to mount iPads? I have a full size one I would like to mount securely that I can use to navigate while driving. Something secure that can handle bumpy 4x4 roads.

I love my setup, it's rock-solid. It's a Pro-Clip console mount that snaps onto the passenger side of the console, have a 1-inch Ram Mount ball bolted onto it. From the ball is a little Ram Mount arm that holds a Ram Mount EZ-Roll'r iPad cradle. I have a little cradle for my iPad Mini and a bigger one for my iPad Pro.

Neither of them get in my wife's way, and the arm easily pops off the ball for storage. She can easily swivel the iPad to do the navigating as well.

I will say that I prefer the smaller iPad as it stays out of the way of everything a little better.

iPad cradle:
RAM Mount EZ-Roll'r Cradle f/Apple iPad Mini 4

Adjustable connector arm between base and cradle:
Ram Mount Double Socket Arm for 1-Inch Ball Bases RAM-B-201U

Ball-mount on base:
Ram Mount 2 x 1.7 Inches Base with 1-Inch Ball that Contains the Universal AMPs Hole Pattern for the Garmin zumo/TomTom Rider/Urban Rider (Discontinued by Manufacturer)

Base:
ProClip Toyota 4Runner Console Mount - ProClip Console Mount 2010-2018 Toyota 4Runner Item: 834492

What's the legality of these?

More and more states have laws against using "mobile devices" while driving which the iPad can be considered by Smokies (who don't seem to be distracted by typing on a laptop while driving).

Yes, I realize the irony that many new cars have screens larger than iPads--especially Tesla.

Excellent timing of the post. I have been trying to come up with a system for mounting both the ipad and the ham radio.
I found the RAM HD mount that attaches to the car seat with a rigid aluminum rod. RAM also has a mount thats flexible for about 1/3rd the price of the former.

Thats interesting. No issues whatsoever with the screen moving around off road? This is quite a bit cheaper than what I was configuring with RAM mounts.

I don't have a mount but to chime in on gooseneck mounts - they tend to wobble a bit too much for my taste. I would prefer a rigid mount like Ram Mount over any gooseneck mounts.

Agreed. Went with Ram AFTER trying other opinions.

I think it depends on the exact wording of you local law.

Here it just states that you cannot operate motor vehicle while using a mobile electronic device.

I would consider you to be using the device if the screen is on. Just my opinion.
