The name of the SUV will no longer be called 4Runner, it will be called a Toyota Guanajuato.

I believe the Mexican plants get quality awards unlike the Texas plant. My Tacoma was built in Baja and it was fine.
The turd get is garbage because it's a turd gen.

If this happened, I am sure we would see PRO colors on the TRD OR trim of the 4Runner just like the Tacoma and Tundra. I'd still keep my 5th gen.

If this is the case, I think the 5th gen and any other gen that was made in Japan will hold even more of a value.

That article is from 2017. Toyota most definitely has a very strong Union presence in Japan and they aren't going to get jobs taken away, perhaps if they add manufacturing of a new model but the Supra is made in Deutschland. Unless they send us the 79 series the 4Runner better stay where it's at

I agree - I had a Baja built Tacoma and had no issues with it.

Anybody hear anything about the North American 4runner market getting a diesel hilux engine? Turbo diesel, specifically.
A friend that works at a toyota dealership murmured something about this.

The writer of the article claims that the T4R being built there makes sense because the Tacoma and T4R share the same BOF. They don’t, so the article is flawed based on that assumption.

I came on here to point that out as well:
"which shares the Tacoma’s body-on-frame platform"
I was pretty sure that they did not share the same platform. The only thing they share is that they are both "body-on-frame" designs.
With one bad piece of evidence, shared platform making for ease of building both in the same plant, it does call the entire article in to question. Now, if the 6th gen moves to be Tacoma based...well...I'm glad I bought my 5th Gen and in the future looks like I'll be checking out Lexus GXs.
I've always wondered, while I know the 4Runner isn't just for the US Market, it seems like the Prado exists almost everywhere else and the US is the main 4Runner market (per wikipedia - "As of 2014, the 4Runner is sold in the United States, Canada, Central America, Bahamas, Ecuador, Peru, and Chile.")
Have we been lucky that they HAVEN'T gone to a shared platform with the Tacoma up to this point? Could that luck end with the 6th Gen?

If Trump adds tariffs to autos made in Japan but not Mexico it would make sense to make them in Mexico. Trump is about to clobber the auto industry
