Great timing. I’m in the same boat as you. Bought my XD xtreme HIDs for the 4Runner at Black Friday and installed at Xmas time. A month later, I found my passenger light went out one very cold day (~0F) and figured the ballast just didn’t fire due to low temps. Came to find the stock 10A fuse blown, so I threw the relay harness in. I tested again and it worked on the spot. The next morning, both lights were out when I got to work. I found that both 10A fuses in the relay harness blew.
I came to realize that in both cases, the headlights were trying to fire at the same time as the car was started in cold weather. If I switch them on when the car isn’t being started, they fire up fine (even with the 7.5A fuses I put in the relay harnesses for lack of 10A replacements). Seeing your post seems to support my theory that the in cold temps the ballasts can draw amperage beyond claimed/expected on startup, particularly when the battery is being worked harder to start the car.
I posted about it just this morning: in another thread
When I contacted XD support, they told me to look at the grounds, but I don’t buy that as both the OE ground and XD relay harness ground would have to be bad. Can you clarify whether XD meant that the OE wiring can support 15A fuses or that their relay harness can?
I’ve played this stupid game of turning my lights off and on each time I use them to avoid blowing more fuses, but a better long term solution is needed. If their relay harness isn’t up to handling a 15A fuse I’ll build my own.

I would never replace to a higher amp fuse, good way to fry your stock headlight wiring. I would scrap the XD kits and try another brand.

I'm in total agreement with this. If I'm reading everything correctly I think you are blowing the factory 10A fuse running off of the stock wiring? Now someone has upgraded to a relay harness and now blowing twin 10A fuses? Are you stilling blowing the factory fuse as well? I don't agree with upgrading fuses. If the supplied wiring supposedly for this kit is blowing fuses then something is not right. My opinion is this sounds like crap products. I'd trash this junk or return it for a quality kit. I'd recommend Morimoto with their relay harness. Been running their stuff for many years without a single problem or a single blown fuse. You pay more but it's quality stuff. Just my opinion. Good luck.

The XD kit was bought on black friday and installed after christmas. ( approx 7 weeks running)
35W kit
I just noticed that the 4 people having this problem have all bought the kit within the last 3 months..... Bad batch?

different problem for me...
xenon depot 5k HID kit with canbus and hooked up with relay directly to battery. Yesterday I parked my car and a few hours later I noticed just the passenger highlight was ON. Car off, lights in 'off' switch in side cab, yet the headlight was just ON. I tired everything Drove it awhile, messed with on/off/auto/fogs etc. and finally just unplugged the wire. Now the light won't turn back on Iv'e run this kit for 16 months with 0 issues. Haven't had time to reassess but ill check the fuse...

Hi alext72888,
My 'OPT-7' HID kit is designed to plug right into the factory low-beam female sockets (no additional wiring kit needed)! Yours should too! If you're referring to the factory '10A fuse' for the factory low-beams that keeps blowing, then there's a problem with the ballast/HID Bulbs!
Send the kit back for a refund or an exchange to replace the faulty equipment. If you need a kit that's inexpensive and flawless in operation, here's one you can depend on (about 30 minutes to install) and have been in for a couple of years now, have NEVER blown a factory fuse and trouble free:
Just $28 bucks: OPT7 Slim H11 HID Kit Headlight Conversion Bulbs | All Xenon Light Colors | eBay 'Best to you',

Sounds like you had a relay that failed and stayed closed.

Thanks for the post - re both of the fuses, are they the ones in the relay harnesses we provide, or the truck's fuse box?

It's not really so much a matter of quality here, but the amperage required of the ballasts to ignite. We could reduce that number considerably, but it would take ages for the ballast to warm the bulb up to its full operating intensity.
No doubt that Opt7 kit would probably plug n play with the factory wiring, while thats convenient, the AMP draw is so low (and directly correlates) with their ability to bring the bulbs up to intensity.
That said, we really recommend running the provided relay harnesses with the kit. Since they'll draw power directly from the battery and only relay on the factory wiring for the on/off signal, it will be an easier load to handle on that wiring, so the fuse wont blow.

First time on this forum;
I’m trying to figure out an issue with the rr htr fuse 10a which keeps blowing out the second I install a new fuse, I don’t have anything plugged into the cigarette port, I don’t have any special lightbulbs or anything... all other fuses are working properly, the only thing is that my door ajar dash warning light stays on although I changed all the door panel switches except the tailgate, idk if this is connected but the fuse is for rear AC

I see no mention of resistance and or voltage checks performed before or after these kits were installed. Resistance checks should be performed before power is applied followed voltage checks. Does this kit come with a wiring diagram, expected values for said checks and procedures for troubleshooting? If not, I feel there should be - because there could be an existing problem now complicated by installing new equipment; or issues with new parts. There should also be values included for checks made to new parts before installation (in case one is bad or out of spec).
There are countless threads about the install of new electrical devices and the problems that result in people asking for help. Do the manufacturers of these items just expect them to work without knowing how knowledgable the person installing their products is?
If you are blowing a 10A fuse obviously something is wrong. Substituting a larger fuse is a bad and unsafe idea.
