LE Running board/Steps/Sliders Options

Attachment 324806Attachment 324805Hey everyone, first post so forgive me if I don't know a whole lot. I have a 2017 LE with a 3-2 leveling kit and 285/70/17s and am looking for some good steps. I narrowed it down to the ever popular N-FAb 3" nerf steps and some Rough Country steps (same config).

Rough Country Cab Length Nerf Steps for 2014-2019 Toyota 4-Runner [RCT1360] | Rough Country Suspension Systems(R)

N-Fab(R) - 3" Round Nerf Steps

Was wondering if you guys had picked one over the other and what your experience has been?

Also I've considered some no MOD rock sliders that I found on this thread: Sliders? For a Limited? Tell me more!

I'm looking for durability and functionality. I'd love the extra clearance and protection the sliders would give me, but I like the functionality of the steps (my seats do too).

Feel free to post other options or preferences, some befores/afters, brand opinions, positive negative experiences with install or purchasing, or anything else you feel adds to the thread! Thanks

I have a 15 LE and I removed the stock running boards and rocker panels and replaced them with the Trail Edition rocker trim and RSG Flat Sliders with the bump-out. RSG was awesome (very fast) the sliders are bomb proof and are great for a step. I also gained about 4 inches of clearance with the rocker trim swap

Appreciate the suggestion and thanks for the reply. Do the RSGs mount to the frame though? I'm still running XREAS suspension, wouldn't that conflict?

Your ride looks great too!

Metal Tech makes bolt-on sliders for the LE. Works with XREAS and LE rocker trim. I have them on my LE.

Yes, the RSG sliders bolt directly to the frame, and with 4 mounting posts instead of 3 like most others. I also had XREAS but had the lines tied up when I added the ToyTec Boss lift. If keeping XREAS, you would have to remove a line clip or two, tie or tape it out of the way during install, and simply re-attach when finished. Or so I've een told...

Question for you - Did you get your lift for looks or for function? If you use steps like the Tough Country and NFab bars you've showed, you've just negated the ground clearance you've gained. If ground clearance (to be clear, it's technically body clearance) is not important to you, either will be fine. Just chose on price and reputation.

I personally went with the LE OPOR sliders sold on MetalTech and referenced above. At the time, I had kept my XREAS; however, I'm likely going to do the TE rocker panel mod and remove the 3" of LE body skirts and get a regular set of sliders so I have even more ground clearance.

I just put the N-Fab on my Limited Nightshade and think they look pretty awesome. Mine are 2" not the 3". I don't believe they make the 3" for the Limited.

Install went really slick, hardest part was getting the bolts in the bracket in the front lined up. Trick is to do those first.

Overall very happy with them. Drove today in some salty crap and you could hear it 'tinging' off the metal bars.

The MetalTechs are definitely a top consideration right now tbh. How was the install and purchase from the manufacturer? How are they o door protection too? My back doors are getting torn up from the rocks zinging back there lol.

I've figured that I should keep the XREAS until I have the extra cash to spend on new suspension and get a few more thousand miles out of it first, then I'll upgrade both suspension and legit sliders I think? It's between the RGS and MetalTechs right now.

Like I said above, I think I'm going to do exactly what you're doing. I'll keep the XREAS for now and get a few more thousand miles out of it and purchase some MetalTechs, then down the road upgrade suspension and switch to legitimate sliders with the TE trim mod. The front of the LE hangs a bit lower doesn't it have some extra plastics in front that need to be removed as well? How's the door protection on the MetalTechs from your experience?

The N-Fabs look fantastic for sure. I personally like the larger 3" tube from Rough Country, but both are super solid.

Purchase was fine. They were in stock at the time. Install was straight forward bolt on with existing frame holes. Door protection is very good. The step plates do a good of stopping rocks.

Just an N-Fab update... I've already got a bunch of paint peeling and completely bare spots. Needless to say I'm not thrilled about it. Contacted them to see about getting that fixed. So if you're thinking N-Fab maybe hold up a bit.
