Thanks for this. Unfortunately something's happened with your photos, I only see the last one in your instructions and the rest don't work for some reason?

What this does is just using the unlock to disarm the factory security circumventing the need for the actual key. by holding it down it will simulate what you would do when you insert a key into the tailgate cylinder.

So if the switch is placed within view like i have seen some guys do because they dont want to fish it thru the hatch boot. a thief can break the window and press unlock and disarm the factory security. Dont forget, there is no impact sensor on factory security systems. The difference here vs lets say they broke the drivers window and hit unlock on the drivers door. the system will not go off until the door is opened, there is a door pin switch. hitting the unlock switch will not disarm the truck. using the rear "mod switch" will since it is directly going to the rear key cylinder microswitch that is meant for factory arm and disarm.

I'm not trying to start any war or anything, just was not sure if you knew of this security vulnerability now with this modification.
I ordered this, hopefully mitigates the theft problem

Mini spring return key switch with 2 tubular keys and quick connect terminals, keyed alike

Nice thread! Thanks for the extra justification that buying the 4Runner you really wanted on the east coast and driving it back to Utah isn’t a completely insane idea! I just got back from a 2.5 week roadtrip back to SLC from Atlanta to get my new 2023 TRD ORP with KDSS + Sliding Cargo Deck (sliding deck is unobtanium outside of the SE US Region). 2894 mi, 12 mtb rides & numerous meet ups with family & friends along the way = totally worth it!!!

Now time to get the mods started again (I had my previous 2010 TE dialed the last ~10 years so been a minute since I was doing much modding.)

PS - Cement was hands down my favorite TRD Pro color. Def worth a road trip to NC to get one!
