Faux hood scoop
What has anyone done to the faux hood scoop on their Runner? I hate that it serves no purpose.

Even though my 4Runner is slow, the hood scoop makes it look fast. And apparently a new Millennial term for "rad" is now "dope". So it makes it look "dope".
About to put a hood scoop decal on it to keep the glare down.

I agree the glare is unbearable at times.

There's always someone on this forum looking to do a hood swap. I'm looking for a metallic gray one if anyone in Northern Cali is looking to swap out.

I feel like rad is more popular than dope these days.

Now that would be a nice mod.

Man, it's been TERRIBLE on mine. Especially this time of year when I had to work STRAIGHT into the low morning sun. My vinyl decal saved the day and I actually love the way it looks.

Only had glare once, coming down off of the Como Lake Rd. in Colorado in the evening. Sun reflected right in my eyes. But I'm hoping the hood scoop decal is going to cut down on the glare and will also be dope.

Yeah, my drive from Salt Lake City to Auburn, CA last summer was ROUGH too.
My migraines are brought on by flashes of light so I'm probably just a little sensitive to it.
I couldn't care either way about the scoop being there or not though. Least of my concerns with the truck.

This person not only did a faux hood scoop, they reversed it, painted it pink, making it so much WOW.

My idea, which is strictly that b/c I haven't begun to sort out if/how it could be done, would be to turn it into a alternate air intake. So in normal driving, it would remain closed and do nothing like it does now, but for water crossings, a driver-activated switch would close the stock air intake and open one in the scoop.
There are probably a million issues, for example that the closed stock intake would have to be watertight, and I know some will say the scoop isn't high enough for this purpose. In fact, I'm uncertain of how much higher it is than the stock intake. But if you're in water so deep it enters the hood scoop, you're pretty much screwed anyway, right?
