TRD just means the Toyota model got some kind of TRD treatment / accessories and badges. Nothing wrong with taking an Rav4 off-road...within it's capability limits.
The Toyota model is the main factor in off-road capabilities so of course a 4Runner TRD Off-road is more capable than a Rav4 Off-road. Both can wear the TRD badge.

I watched a video on YouTube where one of the engineers, I think that's what he was, talks about all they did. Shocks, custom Faulken tires, balancing the vehicle, etc etc. Sounded pretty sweet to me. From the start they wanted it to be more of a rally feel and not a rock crawler. From what he says it seems like they smashed their goal.
I was honestly really impressed with the new Rav4 when I test drove one before I picked up the 4Runner. If this would have been an option then it would have been an even harder decision to go with the 4Runner. My only gripe with the Rav4 is the power and it made my wife sick to ride in the back seat. She's 4'10 and the seats are in low and she couldn't see out the windows.
Totally think it's worthy of the TRD badge.

Fob goes in my left pocket under my wallet. Garage door at work, garage door at home. I most days the keys never leave my pocket. Since I put in the SmartStart cellular module I really have no reason to ever take the fob out of my pocket unless I change pants. I never have to worry about loosing my keys now.

It's not a tiny opening. It's still a double DIN slot behind the F309. It's pretty much the same as the Scosche kit, but it might be slightly better quality if it's really supplied by Alpine.
I want to like the F309, but the 800x480 resolution is bad for a 9" screen. I also hate that they make it mount in a fixed orientation. They could have at least added a simple forward/back tilt joint like this Chinese POS. Still prefer the ILX-207.

Going to get one in a couple months too. I kind of want the new factory head unit, but I don't really want to deal with the TSS-P when modding or the random malfunctions it will probably have like when they added in to the Tundra.

Cancelled order for 2019

Army Green is my favorite Toyota color. And I'm looking forward to the new Car Play/Android Auto. The rest of the features are just bonus to me.
Hope they don't increase the price too much... !

I just emailed my dealer and asked him to refund my $500 for the incoming 2019 4Runner TRD Pro and apply it to a 2020.

Based on the official New Releases.....is my summary correct for the 2020 models of 4Runner ?
(1) Select 4R Grades - Push Button
(2) Select 4R Grades - upgraded multimedia systems that include Android Auto with Apple Car play + Amazon Alexa Compatibility (no talk of large screen on 4R)
(3) All grades - Safety Sense and therefore also a new Instrument panel
(4) TRD Pro - Army Green
Disappointment - No LED headlights, or blaced-out tail lights like the new 2020 Taco Pro for 4R Pro

Yup, you got it. They also had to modify the front grill to accomodate for the adaptive cruise control. So there's that black rectangular box now under the Toyota text.

It’s nice not having to take out your keys or even hunt for then deep in your bag to get into and srtart your car. Especially here, now when it’s 20 below with wind chill.

I believe that all T4R trims get CarPlay and Android Auto for 2020.

My one suspicion about these being the only changes is that even in all of Toyota's tweets they don't tag the 4Runner, even though they're consistent with hashtagging in their posts, and I have also heard from a source that the final list of changes will be announced during a press release closer to sale date.
Take a look here:
Toyota USA on Twitter: "#ICYMI we unveiled some BIG truck & SUV news @ #CAS19 #Tacoma, #Sequoia #TRDPro #RAV4 #TRD Off-Road and #LandCruiser Heritage Edition. Learn more: https://t.co/49IOwOG7vY… https://t.co/JFvZKnAOzs"
Maybe it's wishful thinking, but recall that in the TRD PRO reveal Toyota only mentions the 4Runner in the broader infotainment and safety changes to the entire lineup. Every other vehicle in that press release mentions the available powertrains, even if they haven't changed, for the other 4 vehicles. Even if there weren't any significant changes, Toyota has in the past still hyped the vehicle up specifically, instead of in passing.
Don't lose hope people! I'm also surprised that the 4Runner hasn't been spotted yet even though the CAS19 opened its doors this morning. Are they even displaying the 2020 there? We also need to make sure if there is a 4Runner that it's not a 2019 model, like in last month's show. If not, it could possibly mean they have a card up their sleeve, wanting to make a bigger splash with the 2020 4Runner refresh seperately as to not overshadow any of the other announcements.
Just my observations.

At least with normal key I can use a simple mechanical copy in a pinch.
I think auto open function when one is nearby is not safe.

Not sure I’d agree, unless the battery dies with it in the car you can’t lock the fob in the 4Runner. Ive had to use the mechanical key once, worked fine and when you follow the instructions to place the dead fob on the button and press to start it worked perfectly.
Not having to take the keys out of your pocket is extra convenience not a “trend” per the other comment. It’s also quite nice to roll the back window down with the press of a button. Toyota did a nice job on this system and after 8 years mine works perfect other than replacing the fob battery twice, which I could easily do myself each time.
