I would do this except I hate the way the dash looks without the giant buttons. Way too much empty space around the receiver.

Yup, I can’t stand losing the big, functional knobs and buttons.
These changes really cover the things I would like to see on my existing 4Runner. I’m fine with the drivetrain as is until they make a huge step (some sort of huge efficiency gain with hybrid electric or much more power with the same efficiency).

Where are you finding the info on the 4Runner getting a new stereo? I only see it talked about with Tacoma and sequoia on the Toyota release?

I guess it's personal preference..Personally I'd happily sacrifice those large buttons to have more functionality and a better entertainment system. tech is all shifting to being screen driven anyway, so the buttons are pretty much dated from the get go.

so no more behind the grill light bars on the lower portion. If the new headunit can be retrofitted into my 17, I'd be happy with keeping my 17. Although, I may consider seeing what I can get for my faux pro if I were to trade for a 2020 Pro, army green is tempting.

I came from a Ford with fantastic tech inside so I really miss it. Its not so much the functionality of the buttons that I would miss, its the looks of that empty space.

Hate the look of the empty space. I’m just hoping it’s a fairly simple swap to put the car play system in and the dash isn’t completely different in the 2020 which I highly doubt it will be.

If the 4Runner receives Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, it will have to have electronic power steering. So there would have been revisions to at least the power steering rack.

I doubt they will do that as it says steering assist is only available on vehicles with electric power steering, so that means not all vehicles with TSS have it.

Does the 4Runner have more units sold over Tacoma? If so they must be putting on all this cool stuff on the Tacoma to get the numbers up. Don’t know why they can’t add this stuff to the 4Runner. It’s the best in the lineup!! Love my 19 but also kinda hate the outdated stuff. I’ll be waiting on others putting in the new stereo if it can be done to see the results.

I wouldn't hold my breath for the head unit to be swappable to 2014-2019 models. A lot of Lexus models got CarPlay for 2019 and owners were told it couldn't be retrofitted onto 2018 models - even the brand new ones like LS and LC.

"The 2020 4Runner TRD Pro is distinguished by a new grille design, as the lower section houses the radar sensor for Toyota Safety Sense-P (TSS-P), which is standard for all 4Runner grades for the 2020 model year. "
this lower grill looks terrible.

I think with the tacoma they are most scared because of the ranger and others coming into the segment. The 4runners competition hasnt really changed...the new kia? The new honda passport? Not as much. Thats why I really expected the major updates to a formal 6th gen. I would have been more OK if it was a 6th gen because it would be a major overhaul. Hate that they did it to the 5th gen now when they could have done this years ago (I would have liked the tech, just not the grill).
