I think the article I saw said the feature was related to auto-turning off the engine if you get out and lock the door without realizing you left the engine running.

A guy at work said that ALL new cars (in the USA) for 2020 were going to have this feature. He bought a new Jeep Grand Cherokee and said it has the stupid "apply brake pedal while sitting at red light for so long then engine shuts off".
Then I read something on the internet, can't remember where, which stated Toyota was doing something with "engine shut off".

I heard it was going to have faux exterior wood paneling. And it will come with two limited edition TRD hair ties for keeping that man bun up.

Ok first off, your coworker is talking about FCA's ESS(Electronic Stop Start) system. This is NOT a countrywide mandated system, and if your coworker said that he's full of it. The idea behind ESS is to save gas/improve MPGs by preventing idling emissions. When paired with their eTorque belt-start generator(BSG), it's super smooth, as in you can't even tell the car was ever off. However, when an ESS system is used without the assistance of a mini electric motor like the BSG, it's pretty jarring, which is why I never got the new JL Wrangler V6 ESS, as they only offer the BSG with the I4-Turbo engine.
As to the thing you were reading on the internet about 2020 Toyotas, the first of the features is to automatically put the transmission in "P", in case you forget to change gears so your car doesn't roll away. The second feature sounds like thevehicle shuts off if you leave it on and leave the vehicle with the key, after a certain amount of time. This ONLY affects vehicles with electronic gear shifters/electronic parking brakes, and thus the 4R and similar older vehicles are unaffected.

Yeah... I'm not sure I'd consider that new front end an improvement. The headlights are cool but that grill - without some further texture or refinement - just looks absolutely huge and thoughtless across the front end.

I hate the grill and Lexus is obsessed with this shape across sedans and SUVs. My wife thinks it looks like a maxipad. She keeps asking why they didn't ask a female about the grill design before choosing it as their key design trait.

Yeeeeeeahhhhhhhh.... I don't think it made it to the table. Nor Android Auto. At least we know 4Runner will have those.

So far am a fan of the color, although I feel like I've seen "better" army green colors... maybe called a military green? Not a fan of the Toyota Safety Sense license plate thing in front...

GX is a joke when it comes to technology. all their creature comforts are integrated into the head unit and it's now 10 years old and shows its age.

Thank You for this info !!!
I should have mentioned that the guy at work is known to stretch the story sometimes.

Guys like that seem to be the origin for the majority of rumors on this site.

I also called the dealer a couple of weeks ago, and our salesman stated no official information or order forms yet from Toyota on 2020 4Runners. We placed our deposit on a 2020 Army Green TRD Pro in April.
